Vortech, UTEC my X

Woohoo! Finally got my X back from AAM. In a previous post I talked about the UTEC compatibility with the X. Next step Dave and Mike at AAM installed an upgraded fuel system and Vortech unit on my X. I Amtraked it down today in the midst of downpours to pick up my baby today. I must say that the ride back was much better than the train (no offense to Amtrak). Instant power! Considering a 5AT with AWD the final dyno #s I think are great (at least for my needs):

Baseline with UTEC without tuning: 208.13 torque, 218 Max total power
Vortech + UTEC + tuning: 266.26 torque, 310.56 Max total power
(on AWD dynojet)

Although the weather absolutetly sucked heading back up to NJ this afternoon, I was able to have some fun and get some driving impressions. It feels like this baby has some serious giddyup now.

Attached is a quick pick I took tonight.

Cheers fellow Xers!

Paul

this has been my biggest problem so far with the fi x. tunning is a problem.
i tried to dyno it last summer and it was putting down 200awhp whichi is a bunch of bs. (mustang awd dyno) what type of dyno did you use.
i'm also interested in the upgraded fuel system. did you dyno prior to installing the utec? did you notice any differences?
i can't wait to see your 1/4 mile #s with the vortech. my best so far was 13.2
welcome to the fix family. it feels nice to have some company.

Very respectable 1/4 mile time powerhouse. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken here but 200 whp on a mustang dyno is about the equivalent of 320+ whp from a dynajet. Limited AWD dyno's are available though so seeing a strip time of 13.2 just clarifies that you definitely have a boosted X.

With a good tune my G35 coupe AT5 [ Mustang dyno ] did 320whp . A dynojet should be 11 to 13 % higher . I would amagine a X Sedan would have more powertrain lose than a coupe . My best time with that power level was 13.2 @105mph 2.0 60ft. .....with the 3.12 pulley 350whp , my best was 12.98@108mph 1.98 60ft . Have fun , the X should launch very good and get some sub 2 second 60ft's easy .

PHF,

Glad to join you brother. My numbers come from an AWD dynojet. UTEC alone does nothing for you unless it's tuned to your mods. I didn't bother dyno tuning the X just after the UTEC because it would be pointless since I was going FI soon. My aim was just to be sure that the UTEC was compatible with our car. However, I dyno'd roughly a year ago on an AWD dynojet closer to me in NJ at 220whp. So the baseline dyno's were pretty consistent under similar winter conditions and no difference with UTEC alone.

For fuel upgrades I went with 440cc injectors, a Walboro pump and AAM fuel return system for the Z. Hopefully over long-term this will give me more consistent performance. As I understand the stock injectors won't hold up to the fuel demands of the vortech long-term.

I can't wait until Englishtown opens then I'll give you all some 1/4 mile times. As said before your 1/4 times speak for themselves regardless of dyno #s. IMO that's what counts.

I appreciate your thoughts on our discussions.

Thanks again,

Paul
