urban i agree....the g is a tough car to get 12s in (esp since most of us wanna run 12s w/ our Maya 20'' wheels and subs/amps in the trunk)...w/ almost any S/C setup. I am torn myself between vortech and stillen...stillen the hood is what gets me....
vortech the maintenance is something I dont want to hassle with, I also like the stillen FMIC...IMHO I think the vortech FMIC could be a bit longer horizontally....maybe swap it w/ a R34 FMIC core...hehe
I like the fact BOTH are good setup's out of the box....stillen has the warranty for stage 2 which is good. vortech has alot of owner's who have been successful w/ the setup....and vortech has room for improvement..
its a tough call...

I agree, read this thread on the 350z forums as they seem to be ahead of the pack compared to this board when mods are concerned.
You will learn a lot plus check out the larger FMIC which I have but not installed yet.

I want (no flaming) to be able to beat the majority of the cars out on the road like the Sti, Evo, SRT-4 etc.
This is my honest feelings, and I don't condone racing on the roads, but occasionally I do like those bragging rights of spanking some of the cars out on the road.

There's a guy in my350z.com with Stillen stage4 who spanks on new Carerra S, evo & STi

You can run the vortech out of the box but it runs super rich. It is basically comparable to a base map for the AEM EMS in the sense that it will run; but it is not tuned at an optimal configuration. The Stillen unit comes pre-tuned to run optimally for the vehicle. I noticed in the videos and from what I have heard; the Vortech units (even the SQ) make this loud noise at idle; sounds almost like metal on metal. I'm not too fond of the hood change needed for the Stillen but I like everything else about their kit. pulls hard from any RPM as soon as you floor it. There have been confirmed reports on motors going out w/ Vortechs but that probably comes down to the fact that the tuning wasn't the best. I have not heard of anyone damaging their motor w/ a Stillen.

I do have the Stillen true dual exhaust on my sedan, so does that effect the plug and play of the vortech? What is the horsepower setting in stock form for the Vortech?

If you compare out of the box kits , side by side .
Stillen...OUT OF THE BOX
Stillen does have better trq. down low
only makes tops 300whp
Has belt problems just as Vortech does
have to spend money on a hood...if you like it or not
untuneable
upgrades [pulleys ] dont show huge improvements
Very loud whine when at WOT
Vortech..OUT OF THE BOX
Lower trq.
Makes 320 to 360 whp
belts need to be tightened every so often
tuneable for more whp
can make a gurggle sound at idle [ gears ]
upgrades [ pulleys ] can make much more whp and trq.
whistle [ BOV ] at idle and cruise
Blown motors are not the result of a bad kit
its the result of a bad tune and the Vortech's that have gone south are from piston ringlands breaking off , not bent rods and holes in the motor

I agree w/ almost everything you stated; just made some changes on the Stillen side regarding belts and tuning.

Stillen has a basic tune as does Vortech
Neither are tuned for the car its going on . And you CAN NOT get max performance out of it unless its tuned to the car its on . Stillen can run thier tune at a higher A/F and less timing retard because it makes less boost . So , both have to be tuned at a cookie cutter tune to make every one that buys the kit run safe
