Unhappy 5AT turbos?

i have been looking for force induction for a while and cant seem to find a turbo kit for the automatic even though i see people with the 5at transmission and a turbo kit? is there any kit out there that you can put on the 5AT and have custom work done so it fits right? whats the deal?

Roneski has a TT setup on his 5AT G. I believe it was done by VRT. You might wanna ask him for more details. His G is just sick!!

Far as I know, most of the FI kits, SC and TTs work with 5AT's just fine. Although Greddy and Vortech online states only for 6mt's, but several 5At's have both those kits installed with no problems. Roneski actually has a JWT TT kit, VRT installed it. SFR/SSR TT, APS, JWT, PE, Greddy, Turbonetics, and most SC kits have been installed on 5AT's. However with all the power and torque, its recommended you have a Valve body upgrade and tranny cooler done. Anything over 500rwhp, should have a tranny rebuilt.

I have a auto Greddy TT and the only thing I had to do was get the ECU reprogrammed because I couldnt use the Greddy eManage. Besides that I had no problems even though most of the kits say "For Manuals." The auto will work atleast as far as the Greddy goes.

If you run the greddy kit and dont do much else your only going to be looking at like 350rwhp-360rwhp.

Tranny upgrade for TT

One source of valve body upgrades is Level 10 in NJ. They claim that they have several trannys running 550 hp (can't remember if they said flywheel or whp, but let's assume it was flywheel which translates into about 415whp with the 5AT) that have only the valve body upgrade.

Valve body upgrades run about $1K installed and produce faster, crisper shifts, thus reducing slippage as each gear is engaged. Slippage eventually leads to tranny failure.

A tranny oil cooler is a no brainer and well worth installing even on a pure OEM engine. The hotter the tranny oil gets, the shorter the life of the tranny. Get the biggest one that will fit (mine is attached to the back of the bumper frame member). Installed cost is in the $100 bracket.
