anyone?
anyone?

Too bad that it's coming out so late in the year. I do like the new G37. Sad that the new Z will be coming out after I turn my Legacy back, as the current model doesn't fit my needs.
I would've loved a 370Z, with a significantly revised and upgraded interior, paddle shifters with the automatic, navigation with the 9.3GB hard drive and iPod connectivity, and a bit more cargo space.

let's say for arguement's sake they are completely identical, 6k for factory turbo? and this will break the z? because nobody would want to pay just over 40k for a 380-400hp z? that would suck.
You seem to be reading things that aren't there. No one has said a turbo would add 15-20K to a car price. No one had also said anything about it costing 2K so you'll have to explain how you think that can be done.
I would love to have the car you describe at say 6K difference with another 75 hp or so. I just don't think it's going to happen.

i'm sorry about the assumption of knowledge from previous posts that i didn't reference. basically i've brought this up before in other threads about a factory turbo option for either the g or the z.
basically the 335i is the perfect example of what i was trying to talk about for the last 2 years, but people would mention that the price difference between a lancer (n/a) and an evo (f/i) is about a 15-20k difference... and the wrx sti, and the neon/srt-4, etc... all i simply said was, 'same car, different engine'. this apparently isn't possible for some reason, and this is what i'm confused about. there was talk about a smaller lighter 'baby z' a year ago, possibly having a 4 cyl. why not turbo that 4 cyl?
anyway, i got the number - 75hp - based off of the concept of what bmw did - 70hp/100ft-lbs tq.
they took a 3.0 and added a turbo (with some other adjustments, granted).
so we have a 3.5 (3.7), i estimated a 75hp increase. but the maufacturing cost of a turbo is less than 2k. since nissan would not be purchasing these retail, one could assume they could get them pretty cheap, labor would cost the same as it does now for the factory.
and i got the cost increase estimate from bmw based off of a few options/standard:
seat memory
xenon headlights
17" rims (328 comes standard with 16")
reverse passenger tilt outside mirror
driver seat power adjustable (8 - optional on 328)
passenger seat power adjustable (8 - optional on 328)
these options also become standard on a 335, however all are optional on 328 (for an additional fee). if you'd like i'll even find out how much they are, to extract the difference (although still retail) between the 328 and 335 turbo option all by itself.

by the way, i've priced out some of the options for the 328 to be more like the 335:
the sport package is 1600 (suspension and 17"rims)
and 3250 for premium package which adds the seat memory, the 8-way pwr adjustable feature, and (i thought) the reverse passenger tilt outside mirror.
that equals 4850. so for only 1,150 more you get a turbo. neat.
i seriously think this is not out of reach for a performance coupe by nissan (z). unless there is something i'm missing here.

in 1998, i saw the article about the n/a skyline coming to the states, and people then said, the turbo model would never be emissions compliant, and it would cost too much to abandon the rb platform and build a v-style that can fit both rhd and lhd.
in 2001, i had a conversation with people (when i had a bmw), that bmw would never turbo a car.
in 2003, a friend of mine who drove an audi s4, said they would never fit a v8 in the sedan (and eventually i think they will put a turbo-diesel in it).
these were all personal 'crack-pipe' dreams of mine.
i think everybody has them, ideas about the direction of their favorite vehicle or two. many of mine have come to fruition, thank goodness. and i hope in the future, the z moves in the power direction so people don't have to do as much on their own.
i think i only get frustrated when people say - just because - without justification, and refer back to the 300ztt.
i will put the crack-pipe down now.
In early September of 2007, it was confirmed by a few unnamed Japanese magazines that Nissan is planning a new 4-cylinder, rear-wheel-drive, turbo sports coupe. Evidence of this confirmed report has been popping up all over the web with photos of what appears to be a test mule FM chassis that has been heavily chopped down and welded back together. The test mule FM chassis has been shortened quite a bit from a normal 350Z and resembles what appears to be a much smaller hatchback hybrid (this can be seen in the images on the doors, roofline, front bumper and bonnet).
It is speculated that with the GTR being re-released into the market all over the world, with the absence of the Silvia for so long, and the run away success of Nissan's FM chassis (the 350Z and G35/G37 and upcoming GTR) that the market place is ready once again for an affordable, turbo, rear drive sports car.
The new iteration of the Silvia is rumored to be priced in a very affordable range of 21,000 to 23,000 USD and will be available as soon as 2010.
Nissan has neither confirmed nor denied any of the above claims, however, in 2003 and 2004, during a few key Nissan press conferences, Carlos Gohsn was asked about the Silvia in Japan, Australia and even the US. His response to the "Silvia" question was simply "It is a good time to be a Nissan fan. Keep your eyes and ears open around the time the new GTR is being released as you may find a surprise."

but either way, right or wrong, you've got me here - saying it now,"it will happen."
just like the new acura and supra are going to watch the gt-r's success and jump on that bandwagon before the bell rings on production standards.
(looking at my crackpipe)
