Could very well be...with a different moniker. After all, Audi seems to be stealing the spotlight these days. A 1 series fighter just wouldn't make a splash.

Infiniti Essence concept car: first photos

By Alex Michaelides

17 February 2009 12:44

We've caught a whiff of Infiniti's latest concept, the Essence, with this annoyingly restricted teaser photo. It's our first glimpse of a new concept car to celebrate the brand's 20th anniversary – and signals a potential move further upmarket, we hear. We'll see the car in full at the 2009 Geneva motor show on 3 March.

The Infiniti Essence show car has been produced in conjunction with fashion house Louis Vuitton, so expect plenty of catwalk cool details and accompanying leather luggage set.

Sadly, we have absolutely nothing else to say about the Essence; this photo tells us next to nothing and no other information has been released by cagey Infiniti, which is banking on making a big splash at Geneva.
350Zed, you could be right about the CLS competitor.

It actually makes more sense that this is a Q-replacement, especially in light of the LV co-branding maneuver.

Nissan been rumored to be thinking that Infiniti needs a large sedan luxury flagship to be taken seriously as a premium brand globally.

Maybe this will be the basis for a new Q50 model?

I'm really hoping its a smaller & lighter luxury sports car. From the looks of that QP, it seems to have aggressive & sporty lines.

Also, Infiniti should just DROP the letter Q from any future vehicle. That letter is associated with failure, considering how bad the Q did before.

The original M was also a sales failure, but the current M35/45 has done pretty well. Same goes for the G20 vs. the G35/G37.

I was speaking relative to their past lineup models. All Infiniti's sold poorly before the G35.

But nothing has been more of a failure to Infiniti than the Q has. Besides, why not have a "fresh start" with a flagship model?

They should use Z, using the last letter in the alphabet for the last word in luxury.

You could have a Z50 with a 5.0L V8 as a top-end version, and a more fuel-conscious entry version with Infiniti's 3.7L V6... it could be called the Z37... or you could add a 0 for added Infiniti line-up exclusivity... then you'd have the Z370...

Wait a minute................

I just hope is not gonna be some kind of ugly.

Cuz judging by the pic it has a very big potential to be just that.

According to this, it is going to be an E-Class Coupe/6-Series competitor.

Basically, using the PM GT-R platform, with a nicer looking exterior and interior.

But, I not sure what kind of drive-train it is going to have. The VK50VE or VR38DETT and AWD or RWD.

Infiniti will show a two-door coupé concept at the Geneva motor show in two weeks that, the company says, is “an exploration into the brand’s future".

The car, which is called Essence, is not the rumoured new small Infiniti but rather a large coupe that could be positioned above the G37 as a flagship performance car.

If the rumors are true, Infiniti's Essence concept will show Infiniti's interpretation of a large luxurious coupe with a V8 engine. Infiniti has filled out its G range with a sedan, coupe, and upcoming convertible. It only makes sense that the 3rd generation Infiniti M include a coupe along with the sedan to compete with the two top German marks. BMW only sold 304 6-Series in January 2009 while Mercedes-Benz sold 601 CLK's during the same time period in the United States. Considering this is such a small market, is there really room for an Infiniti M37/M50 coupe? Or, could it be a great opportunity to cash in on a segment, in which there are some questionably styled products

I cant wait to see this!
