I like Top Gear's take on this (Source: TopGear.com)...

Deep breath: it's powered by a 3.7-litre twin turbo V6 petrol-electric hybrid. Might be a mouthful, but it makes around 600bhp, which rolls off the tongue quite nicely, don't you think?

Drop the turbos, detune it a little and you'll have the basis for Infiniti's hybrid powertrain, which will give things like the Lexus RX450h a run for its money. But it'll have to have a seriously low CO2 output to get close - the Lexus kicks out just 148g/km, which is almost unheard of for a yummy mummy's SUV. So watch out Lexus, Infiniti is coming for you.

That's not all. The Essence might be a show car, but its design won't be wasted. As with any weird concept, expect to see bits and bobs cropping up on future models. Bits like the air vent behind the front wheel arch - it's inspired by a ‘Japanese comb', apparently.

We're not sure what a Japanese comb looks like, but after seeing this, we're pretty sure we want one. And if future Infinitis look and go like this, then we want one of those too.

Infiniti Essence Concept

Recently showed at the 2009 Geneva auto show is the new 2010 infiniti G 37 Super car Dub the Essence price TBA but expected between 90-130,000USD

The sultry cab-backwards coupe is nothing if not dramatically indulgent in its scale (it's a commanding 4.7-meters long), and the rear-drive, gas-electric hybrid is something to behold in the metal, with elements that recall other coupes (the Fisker Karma comes to mind), but a look all its own.

Powered by a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.7-liter V6 and a new electric drive design dubbed "3D Motor", the Essence yields a combined 592 brake horsepower (434 via internal-combustion, 158 brake horsepower via the lithium-ion backed disc-shaped electric motor)

I wonder if they will use that same super strong and sucessful transmission thats in the GTR in this new Infiniti... Thats if it ever makes it to production...

It is a beautiful looking car, but I figure the price will kill it for the average person.

Very, very cool.

Now THAT is something original in the front end grill. Nice to see INFINITI do something completely original again, rather than playing catch up.

Isn't that just a concept? It's a beautiful car, but at the projected price I'd much rather get a Nissan GT-R instead and pocket an extra $20k.

Good thinking... you know you will need that extra $20k for your first Tranny replacement.

Pretty car.

I seriously doubt it would ever look like that if produced.
