Thinking about picking up an 03 FX35

My husband and I really love our G35, so we went to check out a bunch of FX's. We narrowed it down to an 03 FX35 with 49k miles on it. This thing is a one owner, pretty much spotless, perfect inside and out. It was traded in for a new EX35. They don't have any children so they didn't need the backseat in a new FX. They bought it in 9/03 so it has a few months of powertrain left but we were thinking about doing the 2 year warranty, is it worth it? I haven't read about that many problems with them so I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $1500.

We looked at all the service records and it has had everything done at the dealership, oil changes, brakes , 15/30k service, tires ect. The tires are pretty good and the muffler has already been replaced for the rusty flange/leak problem. One of my concerns is when looking through the history it was brought in for service 20k miles ago b.c it was stolen and missing for 3 days. They thought that it had been taken off road b.c it came back with dirt on the wheels/wheel wells and undertray. It checked out ok and they kept it for 3 years after so I would think it is fine. It does have an expensive aftermarket alarm on it now too lol.

My question is this, we would be trading in an 04 Forester XT that is financed and we would end up having to finance around $20k for the FX. Would you finance a 6 year old car for that much even if it was in really good shape and it had a warranty for 2 years/24k miles? I am really torn over doing that b.c of the age. There is also an 05 with 37k miles for about $1k more but it is in a lot worse shape then the 03.

dont think a 03 has any factory warranty left on it. I have a 05 and its ending this year.

I did purchase a extended warranty.

The 03 has powertrain until 9/30/09 so it is only a few months. The bumper to bumper is gone, but if we picked up the warranty it would be bumper to bumper for 2 years/24k miles from when we buy it.

Side note, they have come down on price a bit but still not sure what we want to do. The 05 is so tempting, plus it is the same color as the G, which we love, but it isn't in as good of shape as the 03.

I own a FX35. It's not a bad suv, but after I took it up to the mountains during winter, it's was kind of useless since I didn't get awd. Other than that, it's a great vehicle. I had it when it first came out in 2003. Didn't have any major problems with the car other than a o-ring leak at 43k miles. It only cost me $10 to have it fixed. It's already been driven over 117k miles. Got new tires at 55k and opted for some thicker tires over the stock run-flats. It runs better and a lot smoother over bumps.

The only thing I don't like about it is the cargo room in the back, cramped rear seats, some minor fitment issues, headlight recall from Infiniti, stiff sport suspensions plays tango on your spine, and one thing that really got me annoyed is my sunroof crapped out at 37k miles. 2k miles short to have it fixed under warranty. Funny thing, I hardly used it and it stopped working.

Other than those flaws, I still love it.

I am glad to hear that you still love it and that nothing major has been wrong with it. We decided that we are going to wait a bit and pick up an 05-06 FX later this year sometime. We just couldn't pull the trigger on financing a 6 year old car when our other 2 cars are paid off.
