You are not alone, i noticed that the sedan loaner I had also pulled a lil harder than my coupe. I think the 17 inch wheels ( effectively running a shorter gear), less weight ( yea they weigh less than a coupe ) and the fact the tranny has "learned" the pedal to the floor driving style results in better acceleration.
+1

Had (2) Sedan loaners over a period of time, both AT's and they BOTH felt a good bit faster than my 03' 6MT.

Isn't there another tread about this as well though? Something about putting in the Sedan's Lower Plenum or something along those lines? Help???

The sedans do feel stonger than the coupes...my wifes Maixima *feels* stronger/faster than my 6MT. I think it has to do with the powerband difference, the suspension and the 6MT smoothness of power delivery. My car doesn't toss you back but the power comes on smooth and keeps coming.

I think its just the lack of torque of the Coupe.. I have raced a couple of sedans here in Miami and I have pulled hard on them all... Just because it feels faster dont mean it is faster

There is no engine difference between the coupe and sedan. The 6mt coupe and 6mt sedan both have 298hp and 260ft/lbs of torque. The 5at coupe and sedan both have 280hp with 270 ft/lbs of torque. They feel different because they have different tires and suspensions.

I noticed this way back in '02 when I test drove the sedan. But I wanted to wait for the coupe, so I put a deposit down and waited until Nov. When the coupes started showing up, I test drove one and was seriously unimpressed. Test drove the sedan again to make sure I wasnt imagining things, and I wasn't. Bought my black sedan that day. To me the sedan is alot more fun to drive and I actually like the looks of the sedan much more now. I still cant get past the coupe's "ghetto booty" rear. That thing is big. The spoiler helps a little, but its still huge.

Could it be the torque converter?

In the 6MT, floor it at 3000rpm, and you get 3000rpm.

In the 5AT, you might get 3500rpm due to TC slippage, tq multiplication, and more sound.

yeah i had am 06 loaner last month. it does feel more torquey than my 06mt. It was pretty fun to drive too to say the least. I think the sedans might have a higher low end torque? But i'm sure if i floored my 6mt to the degree i did the sedan, i might have a diff opinion?

it just could be your own mind. i noticed loaners w/ at least 15k miles on them feel a lot faster and better on gas than the new ones with 1000 miles

Yep, the relatively high stall TC, the excellent factory gearing, and the stronger low rpm power of the no-RevUp motor makes it far easier (for the driver) to get up to 40-50mph with very little drama compared to the 6MT. The 5AT is very responsive and it does "feel" like the faster car because most of the acceleration G-forces occur from 0 to 40mph. Seeing that it takes very little physical effort to get up to 40mph in a 5AT, it does feel like the faster car. Now in a true race situation, the 6MT should be the faster car assuming the 6MT driver can launch hard while modulating wheel spin.

I drove a couple 6MTs before getting my 5AT. Around town, the 5AT did feel faster, but above 70mph, the 6MT did feel better. I passed on the 6MT largely because of it's notchy operation, annoying vibrations in the pedals/shifters, and it's questionable reliability (at least in the 03/04 models I was looking at).

I am very impressed with the 5AT in this car. It's very surprising to me that a fair heavy car like this one with just a V6 runs so hard. Amazingly, this car is just as quick as my 275hp/325tq 94 Z28 auto was when it was stock. That's technology for you.
