GM and Infiniti? Please no!
You guys are too funny thinking Nissan is some pure, prestigous car company. Infiniti's are just dressed up Nissan's who wouldn't exist if a French car company didn't take over. Car companies form partnerships all the time to develop transmissions, engines, or platforms. They do this to share the heavy r&d costs, not to write blank checks to some other company.
lol look what happend when they even tried to build the QX56 in the US.. the car was built in ohio and turned out to be a piece of **** because the american auto union or some**** like that used smaller rotors than they were supposed to so they could save money and all the cars got recalled... This is why most american cars suck...
I am always amazed by comments like these.
GM and it's subsidiaries hold so many technology patents it's not even funny.
GM vehicles are probably better then they have even been.
The problem is not the cars! The pension debts and union issues have put GM where they are.

GM is also working on new hybrid systems, as well as being the leader in the alternative-fuel hydrogin technology, and their trucks are once again tops.
GM has some outstanding designers and idea-guys. Put that together with the leadership and cut-effectiveness of Nissan/Inf/Renault, and you have a potential of creating Cadillacs and Infiniti's that would put BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Acura, and others on the defense when combining Caddy and Infiniti resources, technology, quality, and so forth. And think of a Zeta-underpinned Maxima, or an LS7 (505 HP 7.0 powering the Z06) powered Z-car...
How about a hi-po G35 running on the same 500-550 HP V8 rumored to power the next-gen CTS-V. Or a Titan with the same work-ethics that are put into the Silverado?
Nissan/Infiniti/Renault will benefit by a ton if they use the global resources of GM, getting to work w/ Holden, Saab, Opel, Saturn, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC, and many other brands. GM has the technology and resources, but does not have the financial or leadership ability to use most of that very much, if any.
If they did this, GM would then get the leadership and financial gain to extract and USE all of that, and Nissan/Infiniti/Renault would benefit to an exponential amount.
EDIT: I just posted this over at GMInsideNews.com You guys should come on over there and give some input if ya like. We don't bite. Well, most of use don't, anyway.

I'm thinking most of their chassis and hybrid work( along with any diesel tech) is mainly from the Mercedes side.

Just out, but talks have been called off!
DETROIT - General Motors Corp., Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. said Wednesday that they have cut off discussions about forming a global automaking alliance.
The companies said in a joint statement that they could not agree on what the benefits of the alliance would be or how those benefits would be distributed.
