I just joined the got keyed club, but I know who did it. A novel.
So yesterday at 5pm I was parked on a one way busy residential street. I was taking my time getting together and out of the car. This car stops next to me and starts to park on the other side of the street. They are so focused on avoiding a loading truck in front of their spot they dont even see me. I have my door partially open (maybe 6-8"). He swings so wide he clips my door with his bumper. I immediately freak out and start going ballistic. He parks and is like "whats my problem", "why are you yelling", "I didn't see you", "what do you want me to do about it?" etc.. I total jerk. The corner of my door is not too bad, but its the principal that their was not even a sorry, or how can we work it out. Two girls are with him. The one that was on the passenger side keeps totally silent (probably because she knows what happened). The other just wants to go home. I know the Chicago police dont come out for accidents with no injuries. I tell the guy I want his name & #. At first he refuses claiming its not his fault and thats life in the city. (his car is a wreck, all corners are hit. I believe cars with that many marks its their drivers that made them forcing their way into spots with no regard for their or others property). I demand that if he walks off I will file a hit and run report. His GF advises an info swap and a hasty retreat. Me being an admitted hot head is still cursing (just cant believe he swung his car so far, and I was their).
So their gone I am still pissed. I take a picture or two of the scene. They are of the final positions of the cars. His is the black Altima behind the truck. The truck workers were no help as they had no english skills. Why I left my car in the same space after getting in a guys face that lived around the corner was a bad move (I would always have advised a friend to go park elsewhere). I was just visiting my GF around the corner. I come back and hour later his car is gone and right above the door damage I got keyed. Three 5" lines probably down to the primer (drivers door below the handle).
WHO COULD HAVE DONE THAT I ASK? Stupid me.
The freak thing is he gave me his real name and phone #, I wrote his plate #, and my GF recognized his name... he lives in her building and no one likes him. For better or worse our paths will cross again. I filed a criminal damage report but of course since their was no witness they would not apply his name to it. And if I file a accident report they will remain completely separate in the eyes of the law. I understand the Police wont/cant do a thing, but this is only going to get worse. I would like some paperwork to document the initial accident/incident, but I have not decided if I will actually file with my insurance. I think it would just be me paying out of my $500 deductible and getting a mark on my record because they are lazy and wont want to fight his story "me opening the door into his car".
Does anyone know if an accident report automatically marks my car as being in an accident? I would hate my car to get a bad history for only a ding, especially if I pay for it. The keying is much worse.
So in the end thanks for reading the novel. It has allowed me at least get a fresh copy of what happened and vent a bit. Not sure what I want to do next. Well I know what I want to do but in reality I dont want to get myself arrested for murdering a coward. He escalated it and has no idea I know him and where he lives. Should I put my valve stem remover & used brake fluid back in he trunk? I kind of wish I never had to go back to that street and take the good advise "just let it go".

I wouldn't advise doing anything to his car as he probably won't care. Find a few friends that will beat the living day lights out of him some time at night with no witnesses and no exchange of words. Maybe this will get the message across and put him into the same situation as you're in now with no witnesses and nobody to back him up in who actually messed his face up.
Good luck with the situtation. BTW, the black car behind the truck looks like a 2000-2001 Altima.

The guy may be a moron and a jerk, but you may have asked for that attitude of him. You had no reason to be hot headed or scream to the guy. I used to be like that but I learned my lesson long ago. Had you come up to him clamly, he may have accepted his fault. I can assure you, if I was at fault at an accident, and get a response like yours, I'd have told you to go and s*ck my c*ck.
I thank everyday for compulsory insurance.

Pour a bottle of this http://www.liquidass.com/index.html in his car now that you know where he lives.

I would stab his hood with a screw driver and leave it there for him to see.
I am sorry to hear that. My car got shot by a BB Gun a week ago. If I ever catch those bastard, I definitely will do something to him/them they will remember for the rest of their miserable lives. Say like knocking out three of four front teeth will do me.
