Any Major Issues With The G35?

I'm in the super researching mode right now ... plan on buying in a week or so if all goes well.

I've scanned the board some and seems like there are some known issues with the cars. Not sure if they pertain to all model years or not ... but of course I'm buying a new 2006 or might wait until 2007 if there are some good changes in the works.

So, these are some of the things I've ran across on the board from members posts.

1) Possible high engine oil consumption.
2) Front tire abnormal wear with correct alignment. I think I remember reading the 350Zs also have this issue.
3) Power window motor failures.
4) Clutch issues.
5) Manual tranny issues.
6) ??? ... need your inputs here.

Of course, items like 4) and 5) could easily be caused by owner abuse or lack of driving skills. But what about the others, and are there any other common issues that might pertain to a 2006 model?

I want a car that's trouble free and reliable. Really like the look and performance of the G35, but that's not everything.

Bought a Toyota Tacoma last year and that's been completely trouble free ... hoping the G35 can be the same. I know every vehicle made can have problems, but I'm looking for common problems that more than just a few unlucky owners experience.

Thanks !

I have had 1 window motor replaced and thats it... I have 61K miles on my '04 and I drive it ALOT as you can tell by my mileage... If I had to do it all over again I would definately go with the "G" with no hesitation.

i heard the the oil consumption problem could also be caused by how you run the car during the break-in period. I have a used g with 33k miles on it and i have no problems with it yet.

I have a 2005 G35 and have not had any of the issues you asked about of-course I have only 12k miles on mine, but I def. don't have anhy kind of camber issue, it may have been on the earlier models because I had a girlfriend who had a 2003 G35 and she would go through tires like they were candy even after getting and alignment, I haven't had any of those problems with the 05

The oil consumption problem occurs to a VERY VERY few people but when it does occur, it will happen early and an engine replacement may be the result. That means warranty has pretty much covered all of those people. I used dino for 15k then switch to syn.

The abnormal tire wear occurs on 350Zs waaaaay more than the G35 coupes. Also, people b!tch and moan about having to replace at 15-20k miles and say its due to a faulty suspension design...yada yada yada. The Mich PS are rated around 15-20k max and so are the Bridgestones. Don't expect any more especially since you usually don't rotate the tires ( you can but you have to take the tire off the wheel and remount them).

I replaced one window in the first 200 miles (came faulty from factory) but have over 20k and not a single problem.

What oil do they come with from the factory ?? ... I was told a synthetic blend, Kendall brand I believe. That was from the salesman, so I don't know if it's accurate.

Does Infiniti say it's OK to use pure dino oil in the engine? Sounds like the way to go for the break-in, and then switch to full synthetic like you did.

So for these very few engines that do burn tons of oil ... has anyone identified why they do? Is it babied break-ins or something known to why it happens?

I have an 06 G35c, and I have to say that I am not quite happy w/ it.

The clutch is not the best in the world. Along w/ the clutch is the tranny making grinding noises. My rear is making a clunking noise now when I am driving out of a driveway. Sometimes the girl on the bluetooth doesn't want to listen to me, it really pisses me off. My navi has like a 3 sec delay also. Other than that hey the car is magnificent.

Sorry to hear that. Can you elaborate some on the clutch and tranny? Does the clutch chatter, tranny grind or shift hard, etc? Did it take awhile for the clutch and tranny issues to surface, or is this something that could be detected right away?

I think all those issues ar in 03-04 year range. 05 and up are more improved models.
I think tire wear is the only issue that got stuck with a car
If you endup getting 06 make sure you'll get a very very sweeeeeeet deal so when 07 comes out you'll get a good trade in if that is going to be the case.

I believe the G35 comes with regular dino from factory but i can't be sure. I believe most of the oil consumption is due to the rings.

I have an 03 6mt, and the only major thing that I have dealt with it the rear axle clicking. But most dealers are well aware of this and fix no problem. Other than that I love it.
