Hey guys, does a patched tire need balancing? Got a nail in one, took it to Chevron and the guy patched it and filled it with air. I put it back onto the car and on highways there's some vibration.

All symptoms point to balancing required?

first of all, the chevron guy probably plugged your tire, unless he took the tire of the wheel. there is usually a little nub that will eventually wear down, but most likely it has thrown your wheel off balance because those plugs can weigh a couple ounces. doesn't hurt to spend $15 to get a balancing.

You're right, it's a plug. How do they patch it instead of a plug?

A patch would require the tire to be taken off. Once taken off they put the patch on the inside.

Which is better? I heard the plug method was better, but all the times I had a flat, the guys would patch it. They mark the tire and rim with some chaulk and they would try to remount it with the marks lined up.

fixing it from the inside is the better way

yeah patching on the inside is more durable than the plug. cause the plug has some chances of popping out
