Havent done that yet but good rule of thumb make sure the battery is disconnected for many Hours to ensure there is no power in airbag system!

You can try disconnecting the aibag module. First you need a TORX bit to take off the two screws on the side of the steering wheel. Then pull the airbag module out and unclip the tabs off the orange and yellow plugs. Now the airbag module is disconnected. Ofcourse, ensure the battery is disconnected while you're doing this.

What kind of interior work are you doing?

the manual states you should completely disconnect the battery for 3 minutes then you can disconnect the airbag. handle with care of course

I had an 05 and put on the Nissan airbag cover... the dealer installed a special bolt, almost like a small wheel lock (not the torx security bolt), that can only be removed at the dealer (which they wont do). I had to drill out the bolt, and use the torx security bit on the other bolt (can buy this at sears or any auto supply store) - was a real hassle. Just make sure you unhook the battery for at least 3 minutes (I think that's what the manual says), and you'll be fine.

I did a steering wheel swap on my Mirage to install an Evo V wheel. I just disconnected the battery for about 10-15 minutes before working on it.
