Can this be true? Stock G35 keeping up with stock GTO!

Hi all:
Since I got my G about a month ago I have been driving it hard (only after the 1k mark) just to see what it can do. Today, I was beign chased by a silly GTO on my way to work and when we got to a toll plaza we slowed down to go through and the GTO was still close behind me. So I said, what the hell, I am going to slam it to get some distance between the two cars. Well, the GTO slammed it too, both from a rolling start at about 40mph at the same time. To my surprise we both kept the same distance while accelerating. I figured, with the extra 100hp (that is a full honda civic!) he had he should have been able to pass and leave the my stock G behind, but it did not happen.

Can this be true? The G keeping up with a GTO from a rolling start? Anybody cares to explain? Is this a gearing thing? Torque? What could it be?

So, he was behind you?

He prob didn't want to pass you, but just wanted to show he could keep up easily

But according to what I have experienced this morning, that only happens from a 0mph start. Once you are going they cannot pass.

I am so happy I got the G, I feel validated!

I've takin 2 auto GTOs from a stop.. I'm not exactly stock, but close.

I tried to take my buddys stick GTO, but he isn't exactly stock and it was pretty much rape

I test drove both I'd say the GTO m6 has a slight edge maybe not off the line but it had nice pull from 2nd gear up....the autos are slower

ive taken on the GTO and the Charger and i was able to keep up, yes i lost but i didnt get my a** handed to me despite the HUGE gap in HP....the charger is just a Hippo Heavy, and the GTO, i havent looked at the weight numbers but i could pretty much tell is heavy as well...I tore both of them up in the launch, then they caught up and beat me by no more than half a car, i say that pretty awesome japanese craftsmanship

There are only three reasons why I could image you being able to keep up w/ a GTO stock-for-stock. One: They're a horrible driver and you're good. Two: Their car is having mechanical problems. Three: They just aint trying. I've driven the current GTO (LS2 w/ 400 HP) as well as the LS1 (350 HP) version, and obviously the G35. I can honestly say the GTO wins hands down anytime, anywhere unless you're racing through the mountains.

^^ I'm also talking about the manual, not auto, GTO's. I don't get WHY someone would buy a GTO w/ automatic. That's almost as bad as an automatic Corvette. Hell, it's 1/4 Corvette w/ the engine anyway!

I once shoehorned a Corvette 327 engine/trans into a 1966 Datsun pickup truck. It didn't make it 1/4 Corvette.

In a nutshell....
You have to take into account the HP to Weight ratio factor.
Don't know the specs on the new GTO, but I bet the G and the GTO are somewhat close in that respect.
