Is the Infiniti G a boat?
Is the Infiniti G a boat?
I don't normally think of car companies bringing the comparison to a boat in their car ads. When I think of a boat for a car, I think of those old Cadillacs where, if you hit a bump, the car could bounce for awhile due to it's very soft suspension
I saw that ad yesterday in MotorTrend and saw that it was for the coupe and thought to myself "wtf?" If you read the paragraph it explains the reasoning. Its definitely an ad campaign that catches your eye
I just read it in Car and driver, I was like wtf, inspired by a boat??? Honestly, I think they are full of it when they say the boat inspired the designers. Just my opinion though.
Edit: the 07 sedan made the ten best list.

The design comparison regards the catamaran design of the hood and fenders where it looks like an upside down cat hull. This was in the early brochures as well. It's supposed to help the car stay planted at high speeds and offer stabilty.
going around a fast corner with stock suspension I sometimes feel the yes this car is a boat, pig, lumbering, etc.
As far as it being inspired as by catamaran desigin, hmmm never new this fact, but it makes sense the more I think about it.

Infiniti has been known for idiotic marketing ideas. What was that stupid artsy, fartsy image they were trying to push back in the 90's while making nothing but Altima's with fake wood grain glued everywhere. They've come a long way, but there are still some double-headed ****** at corporate.

I don't pay attention to SUVs, so I can't comment on them. But the Lexus ES is essentially a Camry with a more advanced engine, some additional creature comforts, sold by Lexus dealers. The others are different platforms. You won't be able to find a RWD Toyota car that the Lexus cars are based on.
The same with Infiniti in the recent past. The I35 was related to the Maxima the same way the ES was to the Camry. The G35, both Sedan and Coupe, are both based on the same platform as the Z. Of course, so is the M and FX. So, in a sense, you could argue that the platform is more Infiniti than Nissan
The Maximas and Altimas are FWD, and have many other differences from the G other than the simularity of 4 doors.

They aren't exactly the same platforms technically. the g coupe is a stretched frame from the 350z,the g sedan is a rwd platform while the maxima is fwd, and the fx is a rwd platform while the murano is a fwd platform. Just because they look similar doesn't mean they use the same platforms. The lexus ES uses an almost identical platform as the camry which is why they are making that "argument"
