Summer and Winter/All-Season tires question

For those who live in Snow/ice area, do you normally switch to winter/all-season tire in winter and then when winter is gone switch back to summer tires? I'm a new G owner and was wondering what the majority of the ppl in bad weather do with the tires. Thanks.

How much snow/ice you talking about? Where I live, we get snow/ice about 1 or 2 months out of the year. I happen to live in the foothills of the neighboring mountain ranges as well... But anyways, personally I just switched to some UltraHighPerformance All/Seasons. Not enough "winter" to justify winter tires, but too much cold/damp weather to run summers all the time.

We get 4 to 6 months of cold hard winter where I am. Winter tires are a must for the RWD crowd. The first week or so of winter can be exiting with worn all seasons. I'm planning on getting some new rims and summer tires in May.

I use winter tires from mid-November to early March (Toyo Garit HT). When the conditions get really bad the cheapest winter tire is better than the best all-season tire.

Don't drive your car with summer tires. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep the car straight. I had to drive it home once and almost ran all the stop signs!

Also winter tires are not supposed to be run in the warmer weather. They tend to wear away quicker when the temps go up and they also get greasy.

After getting seriously stuck last year in an unplowed parking lot, I purchased a used set of OEM wheels on eBay and a set of four Blizzak WS 50 for my car. Not gonna get stuck again.

Plan to mount them around the new year and remove when the practical threat of severe winter weather subsides. Philadelphia used to get more snow than we do now, but when we get it now it seems to come later rather than early.

My original tires (Turanza EL42s) are just about worn out with about 39,000 miles, so come spring I'll buy some hi-po all-seasons or summer tires, depending upon how much I want to spend.

We got some light snow/ice yesterday morning. While Mustangs with all season tires were sliding all over, my winter tires kept me right where I wanted to go. I was extremely impressed with the grip on ice. Other than the 4WD trucks I had when I was younger, most of my winter driving experience is with FWD cars with all-season rubber. I have to say I felt 100x more comfortable in my RWD car with winter tires than I ever did in any of my FWD cars.
