07 Accord EX-L V6 Sedan vs 04 G35 Sedan

Well, I was just home visiting the parents for the holidays and my mom has an 07 Accord V6 EX-L now, so I was excited to drive it around for the week and make some mental comparisons to my 04 G35.....Here is what I got out of it...the Accord excels in several categories but the G has it's pro's...

Areas where the Accord excels:

-Not harsh to redline, very smooth right to 6900-7000 rpms and comfortable in that range, where the G35 seems harsh with some vibrations past 5500.

-Accord will consistently get 23-24 mpg in mixed heavy footed driving and 29-30 on the highway, my G gets 20 in mixed and 25 on the highway.

-Accord is only at about 2300 rpms at 80 mph where my G is around 2950-3000 (both 5 speed automatics!!)

-Accord is smoother shifting

-Accord runs great on 87 Octane (no difference with 93)

Areas where the G35 excels

-More useable torque, I can put the pedal down 1/5th of the way on my G and the accord needs it down most of the way to get good power.

-Torque steer is very noticeable on the Accord, Yuck FWD.

-G35 has a nicer exhaust note (Accord sounds like a 4 cyl almost)

Overall:

In the realm of refinement, fit-and-finish, and efficiency, the Accord takes the cake without a second thought, but that's not why most of us here on this forum bought a G The G35 sounds better, is faster/torquier, and RWD. Think of the G35 as a Japanese Semi-Muscle Sedan and the Accord as a model of efficiency! Those were my thoughts and I know have too much time on my hands.

By the way, why is the difference in RPMS at 80 mph so extreme in these two cars?? I mean you have a 3.0 Liter Honda V6 w/ 5 speed automatic making no more than 2300 rpms at 80 and my 5AT G35 is making almost 3000 with a 3.5 Liter engine...?? Do we have short ratios or what?

It's because the g35 and accord has different gear ratio, also thats why the accord is able to get that kind of gas mileage.

My 06 G35 actually makes 3200rpm going at 80mph.

It's for performance. The gearing in the G35 auto and 6MT are pretty much ideal in relation to the torque curve of the VQ35 hence the why these cars perform so well for just having a V6. Nissan could squeeze about another 2mpg out of the G35, but you'd have a slower and less responsive car.

All the G needs now to really shine in the face of the competition is a 6th gear (a/t)......(tho I'm not sure the Accord is competition for the G)
I hope we don't have to wait long.

My bro's outgoing 330i and new 335i both rev much lower compared to my G. They both offer great performance, so there must be more to it. They could have made 6th gear much taller for cruising. I wouldn't mind dropping to 5th to gain speed, I usually do anyway. As for Honda, they would have more of a reason to keep revs higher since their engine make most of their power up high. Perhaps a 6th gear on the AT and a taller 6th on the MT would be the fix. I'd bet that within the next couple of years Infiniti will begin implementing a 6sp auto somewhere just to stay in the game as 7sp & 8sp become more common.

Didn't Honda go to the electronic throttle control on the current gen Accord? I thought they had amped up the electronic throttle control so that the car would be more responsive and sporty.
