A/C Smelled like burning, still smells a bit

the other night the A/C started pumping air that smelled heavily of burned rubber or something like that. Today, the smell is almost gone but was still there.

Any comments or suggestions or issues to look out for? I will probably be taking it to dealer, cause its cold as hell right now and i need heat. Will this be warranty? If they say its not warranty, and i choose not to repair with the dealership, will they try to charge me for the visit?

thanks in advance

maybe your filter needs to be cleaned out

6mt. Did you take a hard run just before this happened?

i had taken a hard turn maybe 5-10mins prior. i made a hard left, i had the traction control on, so i don't think it burned rubber, at least not much. then i had been on the freeway for like 5-10 mins. all of a sudden the smell came in. i opened windows and it was gone. but then when i closed the windows, i smelled it again.

edit: i misread your post, i thought you said "hard turn". No, it was not a hard RUN. i got on the freeway a few minutes prior and then cruised at granny speeds on the freeway. i have to many tickets right now. it's pathetic. i just finished doing extended traffic school and got another speeding ticket.

so i went to the dealer today, they had me change the incabin air filter. they said i needed to change it every 15k miles and i had it for 25k. they said the burn smell was from the dirt on the filter falling off and getting burned up when the heat was on. I had them change it but now it still smells. in fact I wanna say that the smell is more noticeable now. They said wait a couple of days, and if the smell doesn't dissipate, they would do something that sounds like "ozione depletion" service, which is supposed to clean the a/c system.

Anyone hear of this service? any comments, suggestions, criticisms?

I'm personally skeptical. But we'll see. My biggest concern is that its a wire being melted somewhere.

I noticed this smell on my way home last night, after driving the car fresh off the lot. I'd gotten on the freeway to go home. Didn't run it hard, but when I got down the off ramp and stopped, it came, seemingly, wafting in thru the vents.

For a second, I thought the parking brake might have been on the whole time , but it wasn't.

Anyone have any more info on this?

I think it is just the filter. This has happened to me a couple of times with the heat on. I asked my service manager about it and they told me it was the cabin filter and it needed replacing. He said it was nothing serious but I should replace the filter.

I think if the car is brand new then it is actually paint burning off of the exhaust, which will go away. I used to work at a Jeep dealership and they had me test drive all the new cars and they all had this smell for this reason.
