Gas and performance 93 vs 89 no differance

Guys its says in my manual use premium gasoline for maximum performance.
This is what i have been using, only premium until i got pissed off recently at ****ty gas mileage and gas prices so i filled up with 89 and to my surprise no performance decrease.
I even tested the car with g-tech , same time,,,,
so wTF? why am I not seing any performance loss with cheaper gas, anyone expirience same thing?

how'd you test it back to back with two different types of gas? G-techs aren't very accurate either. Unless the runs were done within a close proximity of time and conditions, your test means nothing. Also, knocking is less of an issue in the cold weather as when its hot, try again on a hot day in the summer and you'll likely see different results

temperature is not the only factor, tests have to be performed right after each other in the same conditions, humidity, engine temp, road conditions etc foro your test to even be relevant. Go get a dyno with 89 vs. 93 and then report back

Well, go tell Nissan Sport mag they must have screwed up when they ran 91 in a Nissan Murano, dyno'd it, then ran 87 and found a 10% drop in HP at the wheel.
Only a 1 mpg drop in mileage though.

Funny how people are only suspect of the owner's manual when it recommends premium gas. Or maybe it's a conspiracy!!

if you want to find out the effects then use an obd program to monitor the timing with the different types of fuel. with the lower grade the knock sensor should pull timing and therefore some power. as for the gtech, it would look better under a tire that is reversing.

What he said. The timing is adjusted to compensate for the loss of octane...if it didn't you would start to develop knock......

If you don't feel a difference, then continue....I bet once your on lower octane for a couple of tanks, your going to see/feel a change.

The difference between 89 and 91-93 is only at most $.15 - $.20 so whats the big deal.......I'd rather use the higher octane than have a couple of extra bucks......

I wouldn't dare think using 89, I hear slight pinging on Cali 91 with my rev-up VQ especially on hot summer days. Wish I had the choice of 93 or 95.
Been awhile since I bought reg, but think it's only 87 here in California

If you can't afford to put 91+ in your car, you don't deserve to own it. I don't give a crap what your butt dyno tells you.
