Is there a way to fix this so that the light comes on when there's about 2 gallons left? I actually ran out of gas once because I was on the expressway driving from Atlanta, GA to Charleston, SC and forgot how long the light had been on and what my mileage was when it did come on. I knew I had about 4-5 gallons when the light came on, which roughly translates to 80-100 miles. I was so hung-over that before i knew it my engine stopped, clutch started burning, and i was on the side of the road screaming to infiniti roadside assistance about how inaccurate the gage was.

anyone else hate this thing about our cars?
I've always gassed up when I'm down to a 1/4 tank..works for me

easiest way to remember or find out how much is left on the tank, look at the fuel gauge before you start the car.

when my gas needle hits the bottom of E, i think i have 4 gallons left.
at 1/4 tank, i probably have 10 gallons lol.

i wish infiniti would address this. the bottom of E should be more like 2 gallons and the gauge should more more progressively toward it.

you really shouldnt run the tank down to a gallon or less... the sediment will cause unecessary wear.

now wether this topic is warranted or not "what is saved". myself I'll fill up when the light comes on , with that being said... if you wait for the light to come on and use up the reserve 3-4 gallons . YES YOU WILL EVENTUALLY SKIP A GAS STATION RUN. consuming an extra 2 gallons after the light is on will allow you to skip a gas station run around every 8th time. I fill up once every three weeks so i really dont care.

While we may have a 20 gallon tank, you can only fill up about 17 gallons. This is an engineering trait of all gas tanks. 2-3 gallons are purposely left "unfulfillable" to allow for back pressure of when gases evaporate.

lmfao, the light is there for a reason pal, this is a performance car... if there's any one car you dont want to run all the way to empty, its a performance car. If you do it to often then you'll jack up your fuel pump and that's a pretty penny to replace. So it would make sense to fill up the tank when it still has 3-4 gallons in the tank just to be on the safe side. You know what they always say "better safe than sorry"

My light comes on just below the second line nearest E. At that point I stop and put in about 18 gallons. Sheesh, if the light didn't come on early enough you'd rant on and on how this car sucks because you ran out of gas on the interstate lol. And then you'd beatch some more when the fill wiper fluid light comes on too soon.

I have the NAVI in my car tell me how many more miles I have before I have to get gas. I usually don't any longer than when I have 60 miles left.
