Having an auto really that bad??

I have been thinking a lot on my car latley and I was wondering if I made a mistake by going with the auto tranny? I mean while I like not having to worry about shifting all the time, everybody keeps telling me how I should of gotten a manual and manual is so much better.I mean I was thinking about making my car forced introduction and I have read that it can handle it with some work to the tranny but I dont know. I dont know what to think right now and some input would be great from people with both auto and manual trannys.

Thanks
Chris

Well, I think it's too late already. What can you do now - trade it in for a manual? I mean if you have the money it's not a problem, but I think for most of us on the forum, trading in for a manual would not be economically feasible.

Manual/Auto both have their pros/cons. Just love your auto and if you really want a manual, get a manual for your next car.

I have the 5AT, and am glad I do! I like to relax and enjoy driving, and dont want to have to worry about shifting..... If I were to get a "toy" car, it'd probably be a MT, but seeing that I drive 40,000 miles / year, it's AT all the way, baby!

i use to have a coupe 5at but traded it in for 07 sedan 6mt.
before i even purchase the coupe, i thought long and hard about buying a 6mt but still i ended up with an AT. why because my previous ride was manual(6 years, i wanted to try something diff) and in CALI, traffic really do suck. on bad days you'll be stuck 2 or more hrs getting home from work.
about 1 year in owning the coupe AT i found myself getting really bored of it because driving wasnt as fun as drivin a manual car. as time goes by i couldnt stand it no longer, i tried everything, modding it but nope nothing helped. after 2 years of owning it i finally said what the he*k, lets hit the dealer and check out the new 07 which i really like when it first came out. test drove the manual and man let me tell you. i was blown away, even the auto was really nice to drive. next thing you know, 2 week later they have my car in and i traded it.
like calvin said, its really a personal preference. do you really want a 6mt? can you justify taking the lost in trading it in?
gl on whatever your gonna do and for me i have no regret getting a manual at all.
edit: funny how when i use to have my AT coupe all my friends would say why AT? should have gotten 6mt! but now when i drive the 6mt sedan( family car somewhat) none of em ever ask me why 6mt? should have gotten AT on this car lol. thought i share

The Infiniti Automatics are great trannies, and suit me to a Tee.....But to each his own.
I'm not going to say you should get this and you should get that....That's not my right.....nor is it my choice. -- It's yours.....
They're both good trannies...Get what you want -- you'll love either.

Colin.

No, it isn't bad at all. Unless you like reliability, smooth acelleration, and rev matching downshifts that is..

88G35, you originally got your 5AT based on your needs and likes. Don't allow others to make you second guess your original choice. It's not practical to switch from one to another. The monies which might be required for such a trade would serve you much better if saved/invested.

To say that one transmission platform is better over another is not quite correct. That statement does not factor in the driving comfort, needs, etc. of the driver. Stick with your original thoughts with which you made your decision. Enjoy your car!

There are times I think it may be more "fun" to have the MT. Not when I'm stuck in traffic, though. If I had the money to have 2 cars, it might be a different story, a cheap everyday car with auto, and the G35 MT for fun.

Unfortunately, that would also involve getting rid of my pickup, which comes in handy sometimes.

What I have considered is if I decide to trade in my 97 pickup for something a little smaller like a Frontier, maybe get the manual version of that Use the manual on the vehicle I put 4-5K on a year rather than the one I put 10-12K a year.

haha, i dont know what you're talkin about. I can take off my heavy 20's and put on my stock 17's and be neck and neck with my friends 06 6mt coupe with more performance mods than me, and i have 5at sedan! So you're statement is definitely false.
