actaully if you have a remote satrter it could be a lot easier to steal the car, since the valey key is placed somewhere in the car, all they need is a copy of the key or just hot wire it to steal your car. I'm not sure how far they would be able to go since the valet key is suppose to cut off the ignition after a certain amount of time. But then again my 00 eclipse had the same thing and i grabbed the valey key by mistake and my car never turned off on me when i drove around town for a while

W/ the valet key, it's supposed to let you drive around. It has the same chip as the rest of your keys. The vallet key just makes it so that the valet can't open your trunk and glove box (If you've locked them).

So?.... Was this a bogus thread from the beginning? I can’t imagine someone would joke about that, but on the other hand to leave such an important issue hanging makes me wonder?...

OP did you ever check out the car?

What is with the VIN thing?... are you the same guy that keeps saying you can steal a car from a VIN? If all you need is a VIN why aren’t vehicles being stolen by the thousands in every city every single day? I don’t understand this VIN thing?....

And yes, he said they found the car but hasn’t posted any info about the vehicle's condition... last he said he was going to look at it last Wed... nothing since then that I know of.

nope - this is my first post regarding this thread - i pm'd you a few days ago about your GREY GHOST! - yea, the VIN thing - i think the only reason it's not EXPLOITED is because G owners are a different " class / brand" of people. ( ie. high schoolers / wanna be racers / thugs) * please don't take offense to this - anyone reading this - this is just my observation / past experiences - especially living in SAN DIEGO * *
please don't judge me from my past - but this is how it works:
you have a friend that works @ INFINITY / NISSAN - with the VIN, a master can be made. depends on the person/people, they'll either sell you the key and/or give it to you ( trade KEY for PARTS - ie, rims,interior,suspension..basically anything of worth )
...i don't mean to beat a dead horse, but this was how it was done w/ HONDAS--> but like i said, it seems to me that G owners aren't in the same class ( owner's themselves )anyone w/ a honda would tell you the same ( whether theyve been the victim or the guilty party )...sad but true.
anyways - STILLEN is coming up - hope to meet you there - james.

it's unbelievable that someone would risk grand theft auto to make a few bucks or get some parts... If the practice is so common and so well known, I wonder why there aren't law enforcement stings set up to catch the dealer locations that would do it?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you at Stillen!

So does the car have remote-start or not ?

stolen

One thing I would do on most of my car to stop it from being stolen is ....
NO FUEL NO GO !!!!!!!( unless they tow it )
Install a switch to cut off the fuel supply and hide it in a safe place.
You could go to the fuse boxe and slice it from there.
It works because they did try to steal my 02 Accord awhile back. my.02cent.

That's a good idea. How much work does that require?

Very little.

It still won't defeat a flatbed, which is how they got my 96 Impala SS.

The Benz has Lojack.

I can't believe people would actually put all the time and trouble into stealing a car. Why not save themselves all that time and steal the car next to it?
