Need Family Car Advice From Fellow G Owners

Hey folks,

So here's the deal. Got a new G35 coupe in '04, shortly after met a girl (because of car? ), married girl, knocked up girl, baby on the way.

I'm going to need a family car, and of course I want it to be fun. I've got 25K max to work with. What would you recommend? New or used?

Please, no flames on this one, but I've been looking at the Pontiac G6 GTP sedan. Decent hp and torque, but handling is weak. I guess I could try to upgrade. I could get a new one for 23k after some discounts I have. But what else am I missing out there? Maybe I should get a smaller engine car and really wind the gears out - always fun. Hmmm...

Looking forward to hearing your opinions and options.

Thanks,

Gas'

Buy a used something. The first couple of years are the years when kids are the nastiest. LOL I'd say just get a used G sedan - I think you would be happy with the performance since everything is the same with the exception of doors.

Do you have another car that is a sedan? Do you both drive daily and do you both need the option of picking from daycare? If not, then you might strongly consider waiting a bit on having 2 4door cars. With one kid you aren't going to outgrow the one sedan for quite a while, if ever. Don't anything rash unless you need to. This is coming from a mom too so no dad telling you to keep your coupe. Just don't talk to a pregnant lady about why you should keep it. The hormones will kill you in that argument.

forget the pontiac...i'd spend just a little more and get a mini-van. Preferably the Toyota Sienna. My mom rented one for a trip...that thing was smooth and fast. Plus it roomy and later on when your family gets bigger, it'll be useful. Plus on long trips it'll be good for the kids because they have more room to stretch and lie down and sleep.

Lookin for four doors or more............

I raised two kids in a GTO but if you really need more room buying a used
G sedan or maybe a new Nissan would be your best bet. For what you have
to spend you have lots of options.......Good Luck with your family & life!!

How about the 07/ accord SE v6. You can definetly pick one up for under 25k.Plus since the new body style accord is coming soon therefore Honda is giving excellent deal on the 07. I just picked one up two weeks ago for 23k fully loaded. That's because i needed a daily driven car.

No way on the Pontiac - I drove a rental, total POS!!!

I agree with others, a used G sedan or Acura TL... Honda is always a safe bet so the Accord could be a good choice... believe it or not, I like the Hyundai Sonata or the Azera... I'm sure people will want to flame on that one but they are actually quality cars these days - priced good, tons of options and great warranty.

After-thought: I don’t know how much the Camry’s are but they are quick and I've heard the ride and handle nice – and they look good IMO

you have some time to sort things out. 1st year baby wont be
that much of an issue getting in and out of back seat.2nd year
your going to want the extra convenience of the rear doors.

I'm swimming in hormone soup over here But on a positive note, the wifey tells me that if I want to keep the coupe that is cool. I'm just wondering if that is crazy. In case of emergency, can I really put a baby seat back there?

Absolutely, you can put a baby seat back there. It may not be the most comfortable for a long trip or anything but it can certainly be done.

As for the minivan, unless you travel (via driving) often then you aren't going to need a minivan with just one kid. If you guys aren't planning on having another one for a while then you may do better to wait. In 3 or 4 years then you will likely be looking at a whole other set of options and may be in a totally different financial position, etc.

2002 ls 430 good for long drives 4 doors and the ride is jsut as good as a caddy. If you get the ultra luxury pacakage it guves you massagers in the back seat that also recline. You could get one for about 23k
