Need Family Car Advice From Fellow G Owners
Hey folks,
So here's the deal. Got a new G35 coupe in '04, shortly after met a girl (because of car? ), married girl, knocked up girl, baby on the way.
I'm going to need a family car, and of course I want it to be fun. I've got 25K max to work with. What would you recommend? New or used?
Please, no flames on this one, but I've been looking at the Pontiac G6 GTP sedan. Decent hp and torque, but handling is weak. I guess I could try to upgrade. I could get a new one for 23k after some discounts I have. But what else am I missing out there? Maybe I should get a smaller engine car and really wind the gears out - always fun. Hmmm...
Looking forward to hearing your opinions and options.
Thanks,
Gas'

Buy a used something. The first couple of years are the years when kids are the nastiest. LOL I'd say just get a used G sedan - I think you would be happy with the performance since everything is the same with the exception of doors.
Do you have another car that is a sedan? Do you both drive daily and do you both need the option of picking from daycare? If not, then you might strongly consider waiting a bit on having 2 4door cars. With one kid you aren't going to outgrow the one sedan for quite a while, if ever. Don't anything rash unless you need to. This is coming from a mom too so no dad telling you to keep your coupe. Just don't talk to a pregnant lady about why you should keep it. The hormones will kill you in that argument.

forget the pontiac...i'd spend just a little more and get a mini-van. Preferably the Toyota Sienna. My mom rented one for a trip...that thing was smooth and fast. Plus it roomy and later on when your family gets bigger, it'll be useful. Plus on long trips it'll be good for the kids because they have more room to stretch and lie down and sleep.

No way on the Pontiac - I drove a rental, total POS!!!
I agree with others, a used G sedan or Acura TL... Honda is always a safe bet so the Accord could be a good choice... believe it or not, I like the Hyundai Sonata or the Azera... I'm sure people will want to flame on that one but they are actually quality cars these days - priced good, tons of options and great warranty.
After-thought: I don’t know how much the Camry’s are but they are quick and I've heard the ride and handle nice – and they look good IMO

Holy crap, you may just be right. I may someday own a minivan. Oh the humanity!

As for the minivan, unless you travel (via driving) often then you aren't going to need a minivan with just one kid. If you guys aren't planning on having another one for a while then you may do better to wait. In 3 or 4 years then you will likely be looking at a whole other set of options and may be in a totally different financial position, etc.
