Replacement Engine, etc
Replacement Engine, etc
My son is 9 years old right now, and I'm thinking WAAYYY ahead to when he's 15 / 16 and wanting his own car. I would love nothing more than to pass my G35 Coupe on to him.
Anyone have an idea what it would cost to buy a replacment engine / drivetrain & to get the car repainted?
I was thinking of investing in the engine now since I'm sure 7 years from now prices will be up 30-50%.
Also, does anyone know how I hook up my bluetooth carkit to pipe into my stereo sound system? the bluetooth kit has the capability, but the installer didn't hook it up that way.

IMO not worth it to spend $5000 on an engine/tranny now to save for 6-7 years down the line. So many things could happen in that time that you may end up getting rid of the car, it can get totaled in an accident (God forbid), etc. Plus that engine would be sitting collecting dust all that time--not sure if it'd be in the best shape when you're ready to fire it up. Or it may turn out that 6-7 years from now your current engine/tranny is still in perfect shape--very possible, as my 12-year-old maxima that I just sold had no problems at all with those components. Just enjoy the ride, save up some money now in case you need it to replace the engine/tranny if you still have the car, and enjoy the next 6 years before he can drive.
The car will fall apart around the engine...if you take proper care if it. You are more likely to need a tranny, and even then that is good for several miles. Your door seals, seats and interior bits are going to be the cars undoing. The suspension will be a better focus when handing off a older car. The springs get soft and shocks wear out. I'm also on the 20 year plan with a 1 year old daughter I am thinking about handing the sedan off to. Of course my dad's 2001 prius will be her first car LOL. Not a pony problem there.
