Oil & Oil changes + Filters.....!

Regardless of how many miles I have on my oil I never have to add between
changes. It always shows full on the funky dipstick Nissan stuck us with!
Our G35's hold 5 quarts, not a drop less. I started at 1K miles with Mobil 1
and recently switched to Red Line 10/30 synthetic. Oil filters, if I'm going to
spend $10 a quart for the best oil I won't skimp on the filter. I use K&N filters
which I buy on line because the local parts stores tried to screw me on the
price. (once was enough) Do a search on www.k&nfilters.com, I found a
warehouse where I can get them for less than $9 each and if I buy three
shipping is free. My motto, use the best.....change often and your car will
take care of you!

before switching to RP, i was using M1: extended life with M1: extended life filter (m-110) for my 9k miles oil change. i just recently switched to Royal Purple for my 15k miles oil change. i have 16xxx miles and it's still running strong.

I have always found that regardless of the brand of oil,(Non synthetic), If you keep up with your changes/filter....you will never have any problems. I always changed the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Not one of my vehicles ever failed me. and no matter how many miles I accumulated on the car, the oil was always fresh and clean on the dipstick.....

So, I am a firm believer that frequent changes along with proper maintenance will extend the life or your engine.

As far as synthetics and major brand names.....use what you feel comfortable with. If you drive the car hard, or the conditions are severe, then maybe a better brand oil is recommended....

I would agree if you go beyond 7500 miles that is probably a good mileage to at least change the filter.
Lots of good oils out there. Only reason I stick to store bought oils is convenience and cost.
The average synthetic you buy exceeds standard premium oil in some properties.
How much difference that makes as far as your car running longer, I have no idea, as long as you change regularly.
So if the syns you can buy are already better how much better can you get using an oil you have to buy through a dealer or pay more at a speed shop for?
Even standard premium oils have improved tremendously. I think you need to draw a line at some point. I've drawn mine.
When you consider lots of older cars that went easily over 100,000 miles on oil we would not even look at today, I think that kind of puts it in perspective. Again, regular maintenance trumps expensive oils any day of the week IMO.

You should change your oil filter when you change the oil. Otherwise, it'll defeat the purpose of changing the oil.

Of course, that was not the point.
I said I would not go past 7500 miles on a filter. That was a response to those talking about extended oil changes; like 10-15K.

"before switching to RP, i was using M1: extended life with M1: extended life filter (m-110) for my 9k miles oil change. i just recently switched to Royal Purple for my 15k miles oil change. i have 16xxx miles and it's still running strong."

Nothing wrong changing the filter MORE often. No oil is going to reduce the amount of solids collecting in the filter over extended intervals.

I use Royal purple now. 5w-30. Changed from Mobil 1 and glad I did. I change my oil every 3000 miles with a K&N filter. And I use 5 quarts but as the others stated get 6 cuz you might need a little to get to the next change.
