My wife can't drive Manual.
Is it wrong for me to buy G35 6MT? My wife does not know how to drive a manual or have the desire to even learn how. How many people out there think that I made the right decision? Several people ask me why I didn't get an AT, and that it would be easier? Common'. Can you really be a car enthusist with an Automatic Tranny? I mean, what's the point anyways? I'm always the driver where ever we go. So, let me have fun with my 6 speed.
Again, did I make the right decision? How may people out there bought an Auto because of their spouse? How many bought a 6MT because u don't give a fvck?

You're key comment was "or has the desire to learn". I have an '03 6MT Coupe. My wife can drive a stick, but she hates it. We also have an '06 GMC PickUp with a 5MT. She has an '07 Camry, 5AT. My car, Our Truck, Her Car. She has driven the truck, she has never driven my car, and that's the way I like it. The Camry was her choice, She really wanted a Lexus ES, but settled on the Camry. She loves it.
BTW, I've driven her car
, but I maintain her car.
Were you selfish, Hell No

Sorry but I believe everyone should know how to drive a stick even if they don't prefer it. You never know when something will happen and you have to drive someone else's car. If you can't drive a stick then you're stuck. You're not an ******* and as long as she has a car that she doesn't loath then don't worry about it. Like I said, she should learn anyway.

seems right to me. Its your car. I got a 6mt because its what I wanted. The fact that she didnt know how to drive one was just an added bonus. And yes, the wife is stuck driving the mini van .... but she picked it out and actually likes it (2004 Honda with dvd for the kid)
your not selfish at all. however it is selfish if your wife does not have anything to drive. in your case she has a camery so your fine.
i use to have an at coupe and i regret every bit of it. my gf convince me to get it and guess what she didnt even drove it for 2 years straight. ok maybe once, she backed up into another parking but thats about it.
i finally pulled the trigger n traded it for an 07 6mt sedan. love every bit of and no regrets for me. it all comes down to who drives the car!

I am lazy and like the convience of the AT. I don't let my wife drive my G, she has her own car. Yeah, I know, I'm an a$$hole. I had to give up riding Harleys after 27 years, I just wanted one thing that was mine and mine only, like my bikes were. My wife's last car was a stick, she got lazy too, and wanted an auto. The traffic here just makes driving a stick real busy, constantly shifting, another dumb comment, but true. MT will last way longer than ATs, but when you get old, you want convience.
My G is a 5AT but my wife does not like to drive it anyway, she says she sits too low..she likes small cars that sit up high like small pickups or SUVs, and autos, although she can drive a stick, has no desire to if she does not have to.
I got an auto for myself. Like Voodoo I've had my fill of manuals over the years. Now they have autos perfected over what they used to be, you are not missing out that much.
And there is a lot to say for just putting your right foot down and taking off!
If I wanted to drive the way I used to, I would get a stick, and probably an S2000.

She need an attitude adjustment.....!
Having the ability to do more tasks in life only make us better people. When
I married my wife she didn't drive (four speed days) since then all her Vettes
have been automatics. This is my first automatic since '68 so I'm happy with
my 5AT G35 for a change......I lived thru the '94 earthquake with my '92
300ZXTT driving the backroads/freeways foot at a time during some of the
worst traffic in Ca. history.....damn right I'm glad to have an automatic now!
Oh yea, I'm happy to say my wife can drive any car stick or automatic just
like myself and our kids......if your wife doesn't want to learn to drive a stick
let her drive the bus....her choice!

My wife can't drive a manual either. She could learn but hasn't had the need to. My previous car and the G35 are both autos; I would have preferred manuals, but it's not a deal-breaker obviously. She loves driving the G so it's fine.
I appreciated everyone's input on this matter. Obviously, having a MT does not automatically mean your wife can't drive the car. I already owned 3 cars with MT and never has she wanted to learn. She gets mad at me when I try to teach her. She has a 2001 Accord V6 and loves it. She was with me when I got the car and actually told me to go "ahead and get it". Many people also mentioned that they regret getting the AT just so family members can drive it. I don't mind if people drive my car, but they just better know how to handle a stick. Traffic is not so bad in Dallas, Tx since the new High Five was built. No. I'm not an a$$hole. I encourage her, but if she don't have the desire, it's really her lost.
