My sister finnally got her car back after the car was sitting there for a few months..while we were in the court battle for a new engine..they ended up settling before we even went to court..

she has an 03 coupe..and while she was driving recently..the service light came on..so we took it in..and the problems were as listed:

Vapor Canister 243.87
Purge Control Valve 136.17
Muffler 524.95
Gasket 7.63
Nut 4.11

Sub Total 920.84

Plus 3 Hours Labor 315.00

Total 1235 + Taxes!


I still haven't spoken with the service manager personally..but from what i hear...there is a crack in the canister..and the exhaust does sound a little bit more rougher...could that be the canister? or the valve?...or is it just the muffler?

So i know i can get a used muffler from the marketplace for under a hundred..
just wondering if they could be trying to milk my sister out of her money..

anyone have experience replacing the canister or the valve?..how hard is it?

speaking from a ford side of things(work for ford, own an infiniti) but the purge valve and canister asre part of the evap system and the muffler is part of the exhuast......but i cant see a muffler throwing a code.but the evap and canister will in a heart beat if theres an excessive leak(aka a crack)....did u have the codes pulled befor you went to the dealer? and id assume shes over the 70k powertrain warranty(not certain but that should cover emmissions)?

 

How many miles does she have? because I'm supposed to get a new motor as well, and they said they would call me, but its been about two months. All they ever tell me is they still haven't said when i'm supposed to get it.And the car almost has 60k miles and im afraid they'll deny me after it hits 60k. But to your question, the dealer should pay for it, they were the last ones to touch it. It sounds to me since they had to give you a new motor and since they lost money they're trying to get some from you in parts.
