1 5AT here needed his motor replaced after discovering that metal shavings were all over the oil pan. I think the bearings went bad.

The techs actually discovered it on accident as they were replacing the spark plugs seals under warranty. When they popped up the valve cover, they saw the F'd up internals.

You have to check it yourself. If it's low in oil, they fun a consumption test.

If the G has over 75k miles, it may also need 2 new valve covers. As a lot of people are seeing oil pooling around the plugs. Especially #6. Dealer quotes: $700-1000+ to replace the leaking seals.

Lawrence, I don't believe using synthetic has anything to do with your issues. I went with Mobil 1 on my first oil change too and then switched to Red Line synthetic at 10K miles. I've never used a drop between changes except what my catch can gathers...1/4 tsp. SLICK has just over 30K miles and runs like a watch. Buying the sedan with low mileage shouldn't frighten you, ask for service records and change oil frequently you'll be fine....

wow really $1000+ for some valve covers??

sounds like people need to shop around.

Shouldn't take more than 3-4 hours max

3-4 X $80/hr labor = 320 + parts maybe $400

or parts + DIY = way better

Parts are not $80.

Each valve cover is $170, You need (2).
(the spark plug gasket are integrated into the valve cover).

Plus new valve cover gasket: $10 x 2

Total price w/o tax: $360. Add $320 labor : $680

That's in the 700-1000 range I posted above if you add taxes.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
He talked about labor being $80/hr not parts. His calculations come out to $720 if a shop did it, close to your $680 figure.

And don't give me none of your jibbajabba!!

You will have to remove the #6 spark plug to see if it has oil on it.
