Stick with auto or go manny ?

I'm in a bit of a tough decision. I have an automatic 04 desert platinum g35 coupe with 35,000 miles. I love the car, it sounds great, its fun, its classy, and it helped me get with this hotty at the Infiniti dealership but thats neither here nor there. Im only 18 years old so i've still got many years with many cars ahead of me, but whats your opinion on this matter.

I've had the car for going on 4 months now and I've got the urge to put some time/money into it. I want to give it some more power, an even better sound and some cleaner looks. Here is where i have the hard decision. Whether i should keep my car or sell/trade it in for a g coupe thats manual. Im the kind of person who likes to just cruise around, but i also want that satisfaction a manual g would give. Im just not sure if i want to deal with a manual all the time as my daily driver. I'd love to have it to race with and get that extra performance out of the car with, but at the same time i dont want to deal with constantly shifting in traffic or being in the situation of being parked or stopped on a hill and trying not to roll back into something or someone.

What are you opinions on the matter ?
Should i keep my car now and maybe put a few things into it or would it be gay to put parts on an automatic car?
or
Should i get a manual g and put time/money into it and have that faster car, but have to stick with manual as my daily driver.

thanks

well both 5AT and 6MT theres not a big difference in power. with MT hills are a bitch when first learning the car but thats what the ebrake is for... traffic can sometimes be a pain

why would it be gay to mod a 5AT? lol

would this be your first MT car?

Nothing weird about modding the ATs. It's done all the time, and the dyno runs are impressive. Lots of them on here.

i wouldnt say i regret my 5 AT but i think MT makes it much more interesting and fun.. modding an AT isn't really that much different from modding an MT.. i mean unless your hard core and plan to track it every weekend.. i wouldnt see too much of a difference... same engine after all

You sound like an AT guy. The G's auto has a shift option. Try doing the shifting all the time to see if you are into it.
If you like it, maybe buy a cheap beater MT car and learn on it before beating on a nice G.

My previous cars, half of them are MT. MT is fun for sure, when I am up to it; but as a daily driver, AT is the way to go. I would not mine having fun MT weekend car.

Honestly, sounds like you don't really want to have an MT. It's really a commitment, when it comes to sitting in traffic for extended periods of time. If you don't completely enjoy it, it's probably not worth it to you, as the performance aspects of AT and MT (in a stock car) are so damn close.

I got an MT because I couldn't imagine driving anything else. Traffic isn't what I'd call fun, but I have never once regretted my decision to go MT.

Yeah Im not a huge M/T fan my self.
A lot of people are, because they are fun to drive, seem quicker, usually you get better fuel economy, & other reasons.

I have a GSX-R motorcycle, thats obiviously stick, thats what I will drive if I want to have fun. As far as having a manual car, I live in Cleveland, Oh. Lots of pot holes, snow & traffic, A M/T car is not what I would really want to drive based on where I live.

If traffic was always light with flat clear roads I would love that, but my G35 is my daily, I keep it simple.

I sat in traffic yesturday for 3 hours with an MT and hated every moment of it. Got off the freeway and floored it since there was no more traffic and loved every moment of it

I've only owned MT cars since I got my license (except the wife's cars), and I'd have to say I much prefer MT over AT. When I bring my G to the dealer for service and get an AT loaner, I can't wait to get mine back....IMO sitting in traffic with an MT isn't a big deal. After a while, it's like 2nd nature, so you don't even think about it. I've driven MT in Chicago rush hour traffic for years, and never did I think, "I wish I had an auto..." I don't think trying out an MT for a week or so would really give you the true feel of owning an MT, as you're still adjusting.... Buy a $200 beater MT car and beat on it, drive it through traffic for a few weeks, then throw it away.... You'll get practice and you'll also find out if M is for you.... Good luck...
