Oil Consumption!

So i talked to my service dept. today. (Infiniti Dealer) To inquire about an oil change. He told me that it would cost 38.60 and more if I wanted synthetic oil. I asked what he recommended. Replies, " that I have to use reagular (non synthetic oil until I reach 15K miles. He says that the 3.5 and 3.7 motors have a micro finish on their cylinder walls and need reg. for this reason. Ive been reading posts on oil consumption on here and didnt know if anyone knew this. I am going there now, waiting to see what else I can find out from my service manager!

P.s I have no issues to date w/ 9200 miles!

you only need to worry about Oil Consumption if you have a 05-07 6MT (rev-up engine) very very few 03-04 (6MT's and 5AT's) get Oil Consumption and no 05-07 5AT's have had any Oil Consumption issues that iv heard of...

you dont need to wait 15K miles to switch to synthetic oil

I'm surprised they even gave you the synthetic option. One dealer around me said absolutely no synthetic b/c he heard something from someone about synthetic being bad for our engines. I asked why and he didn't know. His strongest argument was that if our cars were to run synthetic they'd come with synthetic from factory.

Just go get your oil consumption test done. All they do is give you an oil change and make you come back every 1000 miles to check the levels.
