Is the G37 just cosmetic?

It's been almost 6 years since I purchased my G coupe and signed up on this forum. Now it's time for a new toy.

To cut the story short, the G37 is on my mind. I have mixed feelings about it though. To me it seems to be the same g35, but .2 of a liter more and cosmetic change here and there.

The question:
Is it a waist to go from a G35 to G37 performance wise? I don't want to buy the same car twice.

My doubt the g37 is any better:

After I compared the official specs, the engine performance seems very similar.

2003 g35
weight 3,414lbs
hp 280 @ 6200rpm
tq 270 @ 4800rpm
FD axle ratio: 3.538

2008 g37
weight 3,668
hp 330 @ 7,000rpm
tq 270 @ 5,200rpm
FD axle ratio: 3.69

Is the power to weight ratio in favor of the g35?

I did not notice much difference when I test drove it.

It felt pretty same as my 05 coupe does. I would deff upgrade your coupe to maybe 07 coupe. But that just me. I love the shape of G35 coupe and I'm keeping it forever. I would just upgrade on the interior.

Good luck

Based on the specs you listed, the power/weight ratio is in favor of the G37.

Isn't the equation to figure out power to weight a basic division problem? Weight divided by HP ? and the max tq kicks in faster on the g35, but then the gear ratio is also something to factor in.

You will definitely notice a difference from the G35 Coupe to the G37 Coupe...

You won't notice much of a difference between the 07 Sedan & the G37 Coupe, though.

+1, the sedan may even be slightly faster, just like the first generations.

yes it will seam a little faster at first, you will get used to it and it will feel like your old G35. However, if you love the look of the car then its a new car to you. If you only marginally like the body style then yes you might feel like you bought the same car twice.

I like being in the hottest, newest car...who doesnt. If its worth all the looks youll get like you did when your g35 was new then go for it! Good luck on your decision

thanks for all the good feedback and advice.

redlude - I always thought the sedan felt more responsive and more nimble.

From what I've recently seen, a 5AT G37S can run 13.7's stock (maybe even faster)

I like everything about the car besides the look and the weight.

Thumbs up

I trade-in my IP g35 coupe and get G37S 2 weeks ago.
First, I thought never buy the same kind of car twice but after test drive the IS and SC of Lexus then G37, I paid the G37S with Nav, Prem., Sport in Red/Black for 47K.
I love it: seat is bigger, interior a lot better, feel luxury.... I love the 19" wheel and the hard drive can record 2,900 songs plus blue tooth and more. But I paid more the 9K compare with the G35 coup 03.
