Taking Car For Check Before Purchase...Dealer?
Taking Car For Check Before Purchase...Dealer?
I'm looking at purchasing a used G35 from a private party, but would like to have the vehicle checked out before I do. Where can I have this done? Do I have to go to a small mechanic shop, or will dealers look at it?
What is the proper term to ask to have a vehicle checked out?
Thanks for any responses in advance.

Once you decide you like the car, and are ready to buy it, make the sale contingent on your mechanic checking out the car. You pay the mechanic and make arrangements for the owner to take the car to the where the mechanic works. The mechanic reports whatever he finds back to you. You discuss whatever was found with the owner and see if you can reach a deal.
I would spend some time reading the threads here about problems that occur in specific years. Do your homework then shop wisely. Take a small magnet and run it around the car making sure it sticks. If it doesn't, you can assume there is filler beneath the paint. (some of the G's have aluminum hoods, so don't expect it to stick there.)
If I had to choose a mechanic I would choose someone familiar with Infiniti, even if it meant having a dealer inspect the car. Just 2 cents worth. Good luck.

They may show some service history at dealership. do the easy stuff. check coolant, oil, master cyls. maybe check for old codes in comp, carfax. Easy way to tell of collision is pull back interior in spare tire and look for former repairs, hidden damage from accidents. under hood is not usually body color so look for mismatched underhood colors and r dot stickers on sheet metal anywhere on car. r dot = a changed part but doest mean the car was tagged but a panel replaced...... This what I would do before you bring somewhere.
