Car randomly shutting down, not sure why, please help....

I have a 2005 G35 coupe with 15,000 miles on it.

It's been acting strange these last few weeks. It's powered down on me 3 times already and was wondering if it was a electrical/wiring thing. Each time it powers down, it would start up again a few minutes later.

Today, I went to my car, unlocked it, went in, and when I was about to start the car, all the power shut down. Even my remote wasn't working and so I waited a few minutes, tried the remote and it worked again. When I started the car, the radio stations reset along with my trip meter.

The time before that happened when I was rolling slowly into a parking spot at work and right before I was about to stop, everything turned off and I had to roll to a stop. Few minutes later, everything worked fine like nothing ever happened.

I was just curious to see if anyone had any experience in this or what you think it could be. I don't think it's a dying battery cuz if it was, I wouldn't be able to start it up again.

Any thoughts on what could be the reason would be much appreciated. I also recently took my car for it's oil change and it's been running great the last 2 years and 4 months.

Thanks,

John / speedraver

could be a dead spot in the alternator or battery...have you checked your fuses?

Just for giggles, clean the battery terminals, and the ground end of the neg. (And check the fluid level in the battery while you are at it.)

Wasn't there a similar thread and people said that the spacer was the culprit?

I was gonna say, sounds like a corroded or loose contact. First place to check will be your battery and alternator leads.

In reference to the spacer, I believe the cars were losing horsepower, not electrical power, no?

i think they were going into limp mode, not losing electrical power

sounds like a loose connection, or bent wiring for poor connection.

had the same problem with my old vic, the battery terminal cracked and wouldn't hold tight, so wouldn't charge, or wouldn't be able to get enough juice to crank, or would just die momentarily... check your wiring and connections.
