What should I do? Keep my 07 sedan or sell it and by an 06 Coupe?

In September 2006 buying a brand new 07 sedan seemed like a great idea, but now I'm a little concerned that I have too much capital tied up in a depreciating asset.

My question now is should I sell my sedan and look for a good deal on a 6mt coupe?

Hmmm, that's a tough one Christian. Something tells me that you would really miss all of the technology in your 07 Sedan if you went with an 06 Coupe. You would probably also miss the AWD in the winter time too. I am not sure what the prices are like in Calgary, but an 06 Coupe still sells for approximately $35k here. How much further ahead do you think you would be if you got the Coupe? My thoughts are that it is not worth it. You'll take a hit on your Sedan and still shell out a good chunk of money on a Coupe. If you were going to be buying something a lot cheaper than I think it would make more sense.

I agree, if you were trying to save $$$, then do a complete downgrade to a much cheaper car..

I currently owe approximately CDN$26k on my sedan, if I sell it I'm fairly sure I can walk away with enough (combined with some cash I have on hand) to buy a coupe with no loan. It would really be nice to eliminate the $650 payment each month.

Christian, I just checked Auto trader and a 2006 G35 Coupe is selling close to the same price as a 2007 G35X.
How are you going to eliminate your car payments, if they are close to the same price?

I would look into an 05 or 06 coupe even if it would only cut the payments in half -definitely if it eliminated them. Now that the 37 is out the g35s are selling for less. On the new member threads one guy picked up an 06 6mt coupe for ~$24K. I know thats really low but Im sure you find something similar

Don't forget that Christian is from Canada, so prices up here aren't nearly as low as in the US.

Christian, I agree with Wayne. I don't see how you are going to be able to get into an 06 Coupe payment free. You would have to shell out a hefty lump sum of cash in order to be payment free. I am just using approximate numbers but just as an example.

You get $38k for your G35x
You owe $26 on it
That leaves you with about $12k left after the loan is paid.
An 06 Coupe costs $35k
You would have to shell out $23k out of your pocket to be payment free.

Also consider what interest rate you got on the loan when you bought your G35x. If it's in line with what many car companies offered at the time, you'd be better off continuing to pay the $650 a month and putting your $23k into a GIC at 4.5%.

I didn't even pay attention to the fact that he is from Canada, nor did I know it was so much more expensive over there. Sorry, still kinda feels like a monday to me. Good luck with the decision anyway.

Have you even driven a coupe? It's going to feel like a total pig compared to your sedan. They feel very sluggish IMO. If you want a coupe, you might be better off with a clean, used 350Z. Much sportier and probably can get one for alot less too.
