$1000 to install daytime running lights from dealer????
Hi everyone
I am going to be bringing in my 2005 G35 Coupe in from the US in about 2 weeks. So I decided on calling my local dealership here in Oakville Ontario Canada. I asked the service guy how much to install dtrl (daytime running lights) so I can pass my inspection and he said it would be $1000 for the part and the labor and that it requires a large rewire.
I nearly fell out of my seat. Is this just a money grab or is there a cheaper way of doing this?
Thanks in advance.

do you already have the 06-07 headlights? if you do thats a complete rip-off! if you dont then i can see where upgrading and installing to 06-07 headlights that price would be about right from a dealer

I believe what he's saying is that the 06-07 headlights have the dtrl, and to get them you would have to upgrade to those and do the rewire, and from the dealer that would be about right price wise. I'm just guessing because I don't know much about those headlights I have an 03 coupe. Good luck.
wow, thats a lot of cash. i would try to figure out to wire them directly to a a constant power source, since they do need to be on full time when driving. a good auto shop should be able to do it for alotless.
I imported my Acura quite a while ago (wow, it's was 9 years ago) and had to do this.
You don't need an actual dtrl 'module' and you certainly don't need to replace the headlights!
Go to a car stereo installation center and explain what you need (importing car, need dtrl to pass inspection) and ask them if they have a good quality relay that will work. They'll need to connect it to the 'ON' line at the key ignition so it turns the lights on when the key is in the ON position (not the accessory position, you'll be using battery then because the engine won't be on).
And to tie up loose ends, when they prepare the invoice ask them to call it a 'Day time running lights relay module'
For the record, 9 years later I and have had no problems with my ' module'.

/\ Glad I could help!
And for the record, the lights that turn on do not have to be the same lights as the Canadian models. It can be any light (park lights etc, not high beams tho) you can even add fog/driving lights that would be wired to that relay instead. The point is to have a visual indicator that the vehicle is operating, illumination is not relevant... unless it's blinding the other drivers

Hey, I'm from ottawa and bought my 05 coupe from chicago in october 2007. 417 infiniti did the DRL job and charged me $400 for the module and labour. You can buy the module for about $100, but you need to take the front bumper off to install it and do the wiring if you were looking into doing it yourself. Labour is $95 an hour at 417 infiniti so the dealer in oakville is definitely trying to rip you off.
Good Luck!

I just did mine a month ago, the dealer in Edmonton has a shop they use and it was under $300. I was lucky, my dad put in a relay and wired the fog lights to stay on it took a 10 mins. $1000 is a rip off, any mech shop should be able to do it.
Crappy Tire will do it, too; I imported my old Mazda 626 when I moved back here and it cost about $120. Of course, the relay they installed crapped out on me a couple of years later (big surprise) so I lost my DRL, but by then it didn't matter.
