Need Some Opinions...about to deploy

Here is the situation i am about to deploy to Afghanistan coming up in about 3 weeks and i have my G going back to my parents house where it will be in a heated garage and well maintained driven maybe 1000 miles while im gone.

What i am debating is selling my car. I owe about 18 for it still and most likely i would ask 19 for it... It is an 04 6mt with 51xxx miles will probably be 52xxx before its all said and done. Has rims on it (20 inch Speedy Octanes) and things like plenum spacer and intake nothing major. What i am thinking is if i sell i will have an extra 400 a month. If i save the money while i am gone it translates into $6000 by the time i get back plus the money i would save in insurance. So i could take that money use it as a down payment on a G with like 20k miles and have about 18k to finance

I know ultimately its my decision and all just wanted hear some thoughts other than my own and my wifes who thinks i should just give it to her....lol......because i want to start going pretty heavy into modifications when i get back and was worried 50k miles was too high to start dropping that kinda cash into it. Or if i should just get the motor rebuilt and start with that.

thanks for all the help

Thumbs up

First of all, we all appreciate you serving our country. I got out in 1975. Does your wife have a car now ? How long are you going to be gone (yeah, they say one year, but, comma). If it is less than a year I would hang onto it. More than a year you might think about selling it. Just think it through, what is right for you.

Thank you for serving our country... i would keep the G and mod the hell out of it when you get back. 50k miles is not bad and when the time comes you can just rebuild the motor

Sell it, if you can get a fair price before you leave...

In 15 months your car will be a year older and worth at least $2000 less added to your $6000 payments plus say $1000 insurance, you will be better off by around $9000 from where you stand today. Even if you take $16k for it you are still way ahead!

...and G's will be cheaper when you return

I agree with the comment above.

And thank you for serving our country. Praying for your safe return. God speed.

If you can get what you owe, sell it. That may not be as easy as you would hope.

If it doesn't sell for what you owe and you would need to take a loss keep it. If it gets held by your parents in a safe environment and the mileage doesn't run up you will get back ahead of the game on the year/mileage ratio

Hey thanks guys for all support and the comments...I think i am going to put it up for sale and just see what happens. I will prob ask for what i owe on it now, like 18,5-19. I have to check but im not too worried bout a couple hundred dollars. Even if it takes a couple months to sell im not in a hurry. The good thing is my parents can take care of all the paperwork, they have a general power of attorney....love the wife to death but when you are in the army you learn to be really careful with your money... thanks again

Oh and she has an 07 Scion tC, white, 5 spd

im thinking selling it would be a smart move. cars are not like wine, %99 of them loose value over time. save ur loot and get a g37 when u get back.

good luck over there, i hated it over there, its like one big cat **** box. so hurry home.

PS don't trust the locals

hammer.time,

WOW... that's rough being deployed especially leaving the wife. I wish you both all the best. And let's get a standing cheer here crowd for what this young man is doing for our country so we CAN all sit around and BS about stuff like cars.

Question that I've not seen is what is the wife driving, and would the G be a better (say is it paid for, or is the G safer, or newer, or more reliable) car than what she's got.

As far as thinking of coming back and then REALLY start adding performance parts. Hmmmmm... with it well broken in that's one thing, but with what could be 53,000 miles and start stressing parts THAT broken in... that's another matter all together.

So, you could sell the wife's car and let her drive the G.
(After all, she IS your wife, and I can't understand the idea of taking it to 'mommy's' house and not let my wife drive it.) Then again we've been married 31 years. However... I can't blast you and not be honest here. My wife can drive the G when she want's, as long as it's NOT raining, and NOWHERE NEAR dirt or dust, AND she MUST dust it off when she get's to work! Assuming I'll dust it when she get's home. That being said, she's driven it to work a total of THREE times 28 miles or so one way in two years.

Or.... Sell the G now while you can, and save every dime you can while you're gone. When you get back there will be PLENTY of used G37's on the market under 30K loaded. (Psssst.... if it's got a Motordyne spacer on it PM me I'll help ya' out there.)

Careful and keep the head down while 'in country' dude and know we're with ya'. Thanks for what you do my friend, not only to you but to you're family as well.
