Seat heaters (aka butt warmers)...
Seat heaters (aka butt warmers)...
Have a 2005 G35 coupe and noticed that when the seat heater switch is initially turned on (low or high setting), it will heat up the seat as expected. You will be able to touch the seat and feel that it is nice and toasty. 10 minutes later, I will notice that the seat is now just "warm" to the touch. Is this how the seat heaters are supposed to work?
Reason I am asking is that I am using an Audi as a comparison which has 5 levels of heating. When you select a particular heat setting- it will maintain that heat setting for as long as it is left on.
In the G35, it seems to reach some preset temperature, then goes into standby mode again. I'm not sure how long it takes to for it to reset itself and actually come on again. Because of this, I've been known to turn the seat heater off and on again to trick the system into thinking I just turned it on again so my seat will get hot again.
Normal for these cars? Or do I have a problem?

I believe the seat warmers "cycle". They heat up to a designated temp, then it turns off and warms up again after a temp loss is detected. Thats how my I35 and my coupe both seem to work. My heated steering wheel on the I35 did the same thing.....I miss the heated Steering wheel, especially in the middle of winter here in Jersey.
