To sandbag? Or not to sandbag?

Hi all this will be my first winter in Minnesota where I haven't parked my rwd car and driven something else.

I have an 04 couple and I just bought a set of four dunlop winter sport m3's. I'm wondering whether a sandbag in my trunk will hurt (greater fishtail possibility) or help (more traction) me?

Anyone tried both ways?

Are those true snow tires? You'll be fine if you have snow tires.

I do fine in Chicago Winters with Goodyear ResponsEdge A/S. Mt VDC rarely activates. These cars have near 50/50 F/R weight distribution with driver on board. So you should do fine with the winter tires as long as you drive responsibly on snowy icy roads.

Hold on... The best part of winter driving is the sliding about! get some slicks, damnit!

None taken, and none intended to you.

I've got 25 Chicago winters up on you, so maybe that helps. Granted if you are on performance summer tires, these cars won't go anywhere. Nor will any other car. Like the Audi A6 4.2 Quattro, belonging to one of my law partners, which went nowhere in slushy light snow when shod with Dunlop SP Sport 2000E.

I used to own an E36 M3 with OEM Michelin Pilot SXX3s and then Bridgestone S-02s. Despite VDC, that car was helpless in the snow so shod. So it saw only garage time for 4 months each year.

And years before that in my Mustang GT, with Goodyear Eagle M+S for winter duty, I'd still get stuck on roads with inclines.

So I have had plenty of experience with no-traction/ low traction driving conditions. The confidence I have running my G35 coupe on the Eagle ResponsEdges prove the significant advances that have been made in All Season Performance tires since 1997.
