Buying an auction car is like buying an unpainted body panel. They have work that needs to be done.

Remember, cars only go to the auction when the dealer that took it in REJECTED the car for their own lot.

Yea I meant when I get my G I'm gonna keep it forever I drive an 08 Corolla right now, its a "family car" because Im gonna share it with my sister who starts driving next month. I'm buying a G next summer. The Corolla is 5 months old, and already has a hole in the driver floormat, broken center console, an interior panel fell off, and has 2 screwed up speakers even though I don't abuse them that much and they are the Premium Brand, and also the back windsheild was set in wrong and was rattling and ready to fall off 2,000 miles after we got the car new... apparently their legendary reliabilty only means the engine.

I've been obsessed with the car since I was 13, and now 5 years later, I finally have a decent amount of money to get it hopefully with OC so I get a new engine

YIKES! OC, badddd word. I am so hoping I am not going to be dealing with that. I have been religiously checking my oil for the last month. But I guess it wouldn't be that bad if you are actually looking for a car with it so you can get a heart transplant.Beware of overpricing-if you find it with the OC prob that HASN'T been fixed yet the car should be a great deal. Even tho the dealer will pay for it, you will still be purchasing a car that will be in the shop for a while. Car in shop = paying note & riding bus. Also, call your Infiniti dealer and give them the VIN BEFORE you buy it. They can tell you if the warranty has expired (ie - 05 model but actually manu in 04=no warranty. OR is it's been abused....redlined repeatedly and they already know this using their damn fancy little machine, lol). I would hate for you to buy and then take it in for a new engine only to find THAT car doesn't have a warranty for "X" reason.
Good luck to you!!
Amanda

Rejected is a pretty broad statment. Cars are rejected for lots of reasons other then there is somthing wrong with the car.

I never looked at it that way. Thanks for pointing that out!

It is a strong word. The car may be at auction because the car is simply wrong for a given car lot. However, the majority of auction cars are relatively beat up. There are occasionally cars which are in EXCELLENT condition that show up at auction, but they will go for a premium.

exactly why Manhiem rates them ABOVE, BELOW and AVERAGE.

Even a car going for premium is still less the you will pay at 99% of dealers.

Above cars are rare, and even rarer still to come from a dealer and not a manufacturer.

I just looked at G auctions in my area, and in the last 2 weeks, there's only 1 above average car that came from a dealer.

Keep in mind these cars are cheaper than dealer retail, because they are not prepped for retail delivery.

^+1...i've dealt with plenty of dealers through my quest for the "one" car....unless it was a rare car, i would not touch an auction car...

My coupe was an auction car (it was a exec car), and I got it used at the local Infiniti dealer. Also a friend of mine just picked up an 04 545i CPO from the Manheim Auction in FL. Had the car inspected through the local BMW dealership, and nothing was wrong....paint, engine, trans, elecs.

Having nothing wrong, and being in great condition are two completely different things.

Being declared innocent is different from being declared not guilty.
