E85 conversion

Any one make the switch to E85 yet? If you did, what pump and injectors did you go with? What are you using to tune on?

how so? Every other make and modal of car is making tons of power by switching. You can run crazy amounts of timing and or boost. It is an inexpensive race gas.

sorry to bring a topic up from the dead...but this seems to be a very neglected topic

personally i run E85 in my S13 drift/track car...have been for over a year now...and its bloody AWESOME...handles timing like a dream (gotta love that 103-105 octane burn rate)

depending on what you have done to your motor...you will need to TRIPLE your injector size (i wouldnt recommend running anything below 700cc injectors on a VQ)...im not sure what direction feed VQ injectors are...if they are side feed i recommend you switch to top feeds with a new fuel rail...if you guys already run top feed rails just change out your injectors...wire up a high flow fuel pump (i run a DENSO twin turbo supra pump in my car...dont bother with walbros...theyre garbage...im not going to get into why)...also it would be a good idea to upgrade your fuel pressure regulator to an after market one (aeromotive is the ONLY recommendation i have for you...weve run them on the shops 600+ whp DSMs, EVOs and STIs...not ONE problem)...get a gauge for the FPR as well

as far as fuel tuning goes...im not sure about what the VQ has available..but in all honesty...if youre planning to mod your car...get some sort of full stand alone system...not only will this allow for proper tuning at a base level...anything you add to the motor (ie: cams, turbo, exhaust, pistons etc etc) can ALL be tuned correctly...dont bother with a SAFC or limited piggy back system...stay away from ROM tuning as well...i run a Power FC DJetro on my S13 (converts the car to MAP...MUCH easier to tune on) and we use a datalogger and wideband 02 sensor on the dyno...once you get a good base tune down, take it out and street tune the A/F ratios and ull be set

E85 is awesome stuff...honestly its worth the conversion in the long run...especially if you plan to do more to your car down the road...it will handle damn near anything you throw at it...we have a 9 second DSM running E85 at the shop...havent had a problem with knock or rick/lean conditions

^^^ good post except for the part that I quoted here... care to elaborate?

As for E85 - its hard to find here, but becoming more readily available... I might look into it in the near future. BTW, I use Osiris - which is why I'm asking for clarification to the part I quoted.

E85 would only really help if one is using really high compression or is boosted. Converting a NA motor and running alot of timing wouldn't be really worth it.

I agree. E85 is awesome for boosted cars. I was looking into it but would have to change my fuel system again to stay at these power levels. I don't want to mess with 1680 injecors and a tripple fuel pump system. My Bosch 044 won't flow enough (at least I don't think).
