Interested in purchasing 2003 G35 Coupe...need input...

i saw a topic a few posts down that said this topic has been covered but i need a little more indepth input here

so theres a 2003 G35 Coupe for sale here in town i went to look at the other night...guy wants 14,500 for it...i told him id throw him 12...he says 12,500...i gave the idea some thought until i drove the car

car is in decent shape...has 88,xxx miles...has a light scuff on the rear bumper (this will buff out with some elbow grease)...needs a bath...ebrake needs MAJOR adjustment....but heres the kicker...when pulling the car outta the driveway for a test drive...the clutch was REDICULOUSLY stiff...this is not a good sign for a stock clutch...letting it out i began to feel a ticking against the pedal...hit me that its either one of two things...either one of the clutch plates has a chunk of something embeded in it (this happend on my ex's prelude...same feeling with the pedal being stiff and clicking on let out) or the throw outbearing is shot...i thought perhaps the flywheel was warped...but after thinking about it a bit it would feel alot different...though im sure the flywheel is now scored from the clutch plate being fuxored

so im thinking about offering the fellow 10 grand for the car at most...given if it were a normal person...they would need to take it to the stealership to have the clutch replaced and im sure it would be around 1500-3 grand for that...ill just do the clutch myself (took 45 min to do in my S13)...but have you guys heard of stock clutches going that bad? and also do you think it would be worth me offering the guy 10 grand for it?

car also comes with brembos and DVD/Navi system...im really toying with the idea of selling my S13 to get something a little newer (and my 240 is nothing to sneeze at...i left a brand new challenger like it was standing still the other day...gotta love 260rwhp on a car that weighs 2800lbs with me in it)

also...what else should i look for in this car as far as buying it goes??? any annoying little quips and quos (i know about the oil consumption thing in the motor in the 2003 VQs)...unfortunately i didnt get to look at it in day light so i couldnt check the underside of the car

OC is 05+ bro(Unless there's some 2003 OC I don't know about).

03 does have the most problems, I would shoot for an 04, but if you can get if for 10k I would get the 03 if that's what your budget is. You can get a good OEM style Exedy clutch package for 400 off of eBay, so 10k would be an absolute bargin if you can get it for that much.

I'm pretty sure a track flywheel would rattle like crazy in this car. I'm not too sure about the 2003's (I know most about 05+) but they do most commonly have window motor failure, I believe some had headlight problems, BOSE draining the battery quickly, more problems with BOSE, I think something about the 3rd tailight dying,, axle click mostly just small annoying problems, nothing huge.

Check out the TSB's for 2003. If you do a search on Google TSB 2003 G35 they come up quickly. Mind you, you're not gonna have every one, but problems are more common with the 2003. Shoot the guy an e-mail and ask what problems he's had already and fixed.

thanks for the info and noted =D

i will be shooting the guy over an email to see what hes had done to the car as far as fixes go...awesome heads up =)

whats the deal with the axle click??? i thought the rear ends were the same setup as the 240?? (meaning the rear axle is in 3 peices)...i always thought axle click meant the axle was bad??

All you need to do to fix the axle click is grease the bushings or something. It's very easy to do out of warranty.

Wow 10,000 seems like a pretty good deal for a G35, although I heard that they improved on the car significantly after MY 2004
