Fuel Tank won't take any gas
I have been having problems with the gas tank on my 04 G35. It basically won't take any gas at all and immediately trips the back pressure valve at the gas pump. The pump will shoot about 0.1gal in when this happens, so I will repeatedly have to squeeze the trigger to get anything in. It happens at every station and moving the handle around doesn't seem to do anything. After about 15 min, I have managed to get half a tank in, so I relented and took it to the dealership. If I keep squeezing the gas trigger fast, it will splash back out, so I know it isn't going in or the tank isn't venting.
After about $800 and new sending units, flapper valve, and vent valve bracket, it isn't fixed and the local dealership seems to have run out of ideas. I have read all of the TSB regarding gas tank issues and it seems like my problem is different. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

I had this problem last week. I went and tried to fill ip and worked for the most part until the end. I had to keep squeezing the trigger over and over. I tried moving it around and nothing. Then to top it off, my gf opens the door and starts telling me Im gonna mess up my car, so I just gave up and just drove off with close to 7/8 filled. Its irritating!!!
Have you tried just squeezing the trigger a half way instead of all the way????

I had a few similar experience as well. Except that my gas tank accepted about half a tank before it showed the same symptom. Also, I've heard many of the G's actually have this problem. Not sure why tho'. =/
Something to do with the sensor I heard. I think it might also hve to do with the flap, I asked my dad and he said that he has the same problem too on his vehicles. Unless ours vehicles are fine and its just the sensors on the gas pumps are more sensitive now???
I managed to get by for a month before bringing it to the dealer by frequently visiting a gas station near my house. The pumps are pretty slow and I found if I just feathered the pump trigger it would fill a half tank. It probably took 15min. I was pretty pissed last week when I picked it up from the dealership. I got the car at closing time and went straight over to the gas station because it was on E. They didn't test it and there was no change. I got enough gas in to get home but wasn't going to stand out in the 20 below weather for long. I guess the next thing they are going to look at is the fuel filler hose that was repaired on the recall. But that was fixed back in 06.

its happened to me..i turn the gas nozzle all the way to the left from the handle...it works..gets me by..you have to listen to it fill and know when to stop, or else it'll shoot out...not fun..but it only happens at a particular QT, works fine other places...i dunno
If you want to do a charge back you'll have to cover all your bases because the dealership will probably file for a reversal.
- Ask the dealer for a refund (important).
- Get a written report regarding all the parts they replaced, including evidence that the replaced parts were actually faulty.
When the dealership files for a reversal your credit card company will talk to you about why you filed for a charge back and you must stick to your guns: the service that the dealership provided you was not as described because they said they would fix your car, but they did not.
Remember, the fact that the dealership did replace parts is of no meaning to you. You brought your car in to have a specific problem fixed. Replacing a working sending unit or valve is just as bad as replacing your tires: it doesn't solve your problem.
I got $900 back from Ford several years ago. I simply stated my case that they promised me these repairs would fix the van, but they did not. As a consumer I am not expected to understand the problems or their solutions so I have to take the dealership's word that their proposed fixes will work.
Thanks for the info on the charge back. I will keep it in mind. I dropped the car off at the dealership again late last week and they are still working on it, so I will enjoy the loaner while they try to figure it out. I already told them that I felt like the work they had done was unnecessary, since they didn’t fix the problem. That led to a discussion about the TSB. I originally didn’t want to replace the sending units, but relented when they said some codes came up when they scanned the car. I am prepared to remind them of the “award of excellence” that they have sitting in the lobby. What I don’t want to hear is that it we need $XXXX to replace the gas tank.
I thought about the problem being related to bad gas gumming the valve or water freezing in the tank, but we have E10 here so water shouldn’t be the problem. The car has also spent some time in a heated garage, so it should have thawed out. The thought of adding some injection cleaner or fuel cleaner in the tank did cross my mind, but I felt like it might not be a good idea without being able to fill the tank over half.

Crap, now the gas filling issue has happened to me!
I'm going to try another gas station just in case something was wrong with the pump and if that doesn't work I'll bring it into an independent mechanic. Hopefully I can get out of there for less than $800!

When I did reserch on the maintenance history on my G before I bought it I found my gas tank had been replaced under warranty for this exact symptom.
I haven't had any problems since I've owned it.

Well, its on to replacing the tank. They are claiming that they have check every line running to and from the tank and that there has to be something in the tank causing this. Its a bunch of BS. Apparently they spent some time on the phone with Infiniti's Technical Assistance Line and this was the only solution that they could come up with. They have offered to apply my previous payment to the tank replacement, but it will still be around $450 extra. If I had known that this would be the costs, I would have tried to ignore it. Just like the broken power seat motor.
A gas tank shouldn't just go bad and they have given no possible cause other something in the tank, but it is almost empty and they can't see anything. It really sounds like a design problem or a defective part. Is there any way that I can try to get Infiniti to pick up the cost? Can I make a warranty claim directly or does it have to be through the dealership?
