the dash on the M3 (the e46) looks out of date, I think the g looks nicer from the inside but that just me

Just like everyone said:

Reliability = G35
Good Looks + Speed = M3

Quite honestly, there have been numerous problems with the M3s, ranging from Numerous (01 - 04) to slightly above average (05 - 06). Assuming from your consideration of the 335i, that means you're aiming for an E46 M3.

Basically, you have to consider the average amount of problems in a 3-series, since they share many of the peripheral architecture, and multiply that by two to three fold. The control arm bushings, control arms, steering column, cracks in various containers are still there. Add on to it, the wider tires (much more expensive), the parts are three times as expensive (any maintenance or repair items are going to cost you immense amount of money once you're out of warranty), and the probability that aside from your big-ticket items breaking (powertrain and suspension), there will be numerous little items that need to be replaced (glovebox lock, interior lighting, bulbs, weather stripping, etc).

It's definitely more of an investment and maintenance/repair money pit than the G35 can ever be. Keep that in mind.

That's pretty dead on.

If you want something quick and nice get the M3. But just remember make sure you can afford all the maintenance, service, and parts.

If you want something that looks nice and is reliable then get the G35.

Bottom line is which one do you want more? Which car will make you more happy?

I was in this same boat before I bought my G, kinda different though.

2002 330 or 2003 G35, went with the G because I didn't want to worry about problems costing more than the car. It always gave me extra money to mod the car as soon as I bought it!

Get the G, you're already a part of the forum.

If your gonna do the G, I'd say get one with an HR or VHR motor. They have been rock solid so far with a stronger internals from the factory and better breathing.

Well, except for the oil consumption issue.

I've never heard of oil consumption problems on the HR/VHR motor ...

Here are my thoughts. I was a bmw owner before my g and i did love it until I started having mechanical issues. I say pretty much any high performance car can be a gamble but in the end nissan/infiniti =cheaper parts and service while bmw=overpriced parts and matenience but its all opinion. I was faced with this same prob 9 months ago and well right now im driving the g and ill tell you why. I actually could have grabbed an 05 m3 but because of my previous issues with my last bmw and my father constantly reminding me about how horrible that situation was. That style of m3 is known to eat through parts like radiators and bmws are known to have hose issues and the oring problems. Thats just the price you pay. If you keep up with it and maybe get a warranty you should be fine. Personally I feel I was a little hasty on purchasing this car even though I love it so much. I really wish I maybe atleast looked at some s4s or some m5s but its cool eventually Ill trade up. Just take your time man theres 100s of m3s and gs and sometimes only one opprotunity to spend the money you are planning to spend on your next car.

I like the M3 and would buy one. But based on your choices I'd choose the Infiniti. I think it will be a more reliable and still fun to drive car.
Post this question a BMW forum and the answer will be different I bet.

Its funny how everyone always seems to narrow it down to these two cars to choose from. I thought it was just me...LOL

the e46-m3 vs the g35..
i think its because of the price range, its getting more affordable
a few Gs more and u got yourself in a M3

I TOO was in the same boat, looked at teh same comparisons...and thanked myself and got G35. My sister's M3 feels cramp, but somehow feels more baller in a way, dash seems ok, but after driving the SMG, the tranny felt weird in manual/auto mode. (chose between smg and a 5at G.LOL) dont ask why...i had another Track/Beater
its been almost a year. and honestly...price/maintenance - the G wins hands down.

But everytime i do see an M3, i always say to myself, DAMN maybe i shoulda...then i hear the purrr of the VQ, and said..ok i feel better. HAHAHHA

+1 G!
