I'm about to attempt front brakes on a 2003 G35 coupe, for a friend of mine. They said they've had someone else attempt them, but the guy couldn't do them because he couldn't get the bolts loose. Is there a trick to doing these brakes, or was the guy just a . Any advice is greatly appreciated.

 

If I remember correctly there's two bolts on the back of the caliper that hold it in place. Mine came out very easily.

 

Mine were extremely tight. I had the car on jack stands and used a long wrench with a metal extension to get as much leverage as possible. The length of the wrench was almost touching the sides of the insude of the wheel opening but that was the only way.

The thing is that, if they are tight, the position is so ackward to losen them up.

The easiest way, if the screws are really tight, would be to get your car up on a lift and untie the bolt by using your weight.

Make sure you use WD-40 on the bolts.

Mine were insanely tight. I used a breaker bar attached to a cheater bar (about 4 feet in length) and it came off like butter... of course that was probably 250+ foot lbs of torque. I had previously tired an impact wrench and just a breaker bar with no luck.

 

leverge, get under it and watch your face and wear gloves cause when it does break, you might hit something with your hands.

 

Leverage is nice, but i have another method i've used that works even better. With the leverage method, i usually snap a bolt here or there. With the new method, i haven't yet.

What i do is get the closed end of a box wrench on the bolt. Then i take a larger wrench and give the other end short quick hard blows. Sounds stupid, but what you are doing is replicating the hammering action of an impact wrench.

Try it and you'll see it works nicely.
