HOLY CRAP. ENGINE IS F$*#*@)o

PLEASE HELP!~!!

skip story if you want:

Story:
The other day, I cleaned out my throttle body and I decided to change the spark plugs of my 03 6mt Sedan. I had a feeling I would find something really bad, but what I found was just disturbing. Yes, you guessed it, after changing out the driver front and driver middle plugs, I found the driver rear spark plug chamber was flooded with oil. So, I stopped my work and called my local shop about changing out my valve cover seals. They quoted me 430, which I agreed to.

Next morning, start up the car, and it is misfiring and making a horrible sound. I manage to get it to the shop, and ride my bike home. Later on, shop calls and it turns out the parts cannot be had anywhere but the dealership. New cost = 700+ dollars.

I tell them to just get it to running condition. They clean out what they can, drain the cylinder, as it had ben flooded pretty badly, and get it to running condition.

I pick up my car and startdriving.

Stop skipping here:

Problem: Now as I drive, the idle rpm fluctuates. Sometimes it rests at 800rpm, sometimes at 1200rpm, sometimes higher, never lower than 800rpm. Also, when I am shifting, I take my foot off the gas pedal to shift, but the engine continues to rev for about 3-5 seconds.

I have done all the ECU resets twice. After doing it, the rpms are about 800 at idle, but after driving awhile, it goes back up to 1200 or so at idle.

Anyone know whats going on? Any clues?

sounds like you just jacked up your MAF sensor with too much cleaner or didn't clean it off completely. that will definitely throw off your idle and acceleration. have you also checked the ignition coil on the cylinder that had oil in it? is your SES light on at all? if so, see what cylinders you have a misfire at. if it's at one cylinder, have them move some coils around (if the misfire moves with the coil, it's faulty). have them pin check the maf sensor. my money is on you not cleaning the sensor correctly. let us know. how did your car not run like crap before if your cylinder was filled with oil?

I did all the resets. ECU, throttle position, etc.

As for the MAF, I didnt clean it. Only the throttle body. Maybe I will clean it tomorrow and see if that helps.

As for the misfires, the car isnt misfiring anymore. It was only after I pulled the sparkplug and flooded the spark plug tube. And yes, it really, really, really ran like crap. Sounded like chitty-chitty-bang-bang.

It takes a little while for the ECU to relearn. Give it a few days and it will settle down. This is fairly common after cleaning the throttle body.

Good point. Hey nutty, how many miles on your car? And what's the in-service date? Powertrain warranty is 6 years, 70K miles. If you're still under this warranty, get it to a dealer as soon as possible, like Monday. Even if you have to flatbed tow it to stay under the mileage!

i doubt it is still under warranty.the spark plug holes have the seals built into the valve cover.theres also a seal around the cover.they both need to be replaced.and the plug is probably fouled with oil too.also,i find it hard to reset idle after cleaning even with a consult.sometimes the throttle gets damaged.you should let the dealer do the idle relearn.

In theory. Infiniti has known about this issue for many years, so they may cover it under a TSB. It can't hurt to ask.

^ I totally agree with Buckeye. If you don't ask, the answer is automatically no. They might surprise you. I've had good experiences with our local dealer.
