$125 for diagnosing your car at the dealer?

I thought it was $45. My car is out of the warranty period and I would like to get it checked out to see what might be wrong with my fans. They quoted me a price of $125 for a diagnostic. Is this correct?

There's a reason we refer to them as 'stealerships'.

Which is about 1 hour of work and they usually put it towards the cost of the fix.

the diagnosing fee is waived if you repair your car with them, but i agree is highway robbery what they charge, when they use the same thing as any other shop charging the universal 39.99 fee. I usually just try my hardest to take it to my mechanic, if its too complicated then ill take it to the dealer, but thats last resort...

they never mentioned about the $125 being waived if I were to go ahead with getting the problem fixed. I have overheating issues in my car and need to get it fixed ASAP.

So you took your G to Infiniti after the warranty expired, do you enjoy getting taken advantage of? Independent shop maybe, if you know someone that's reliable. You might consider Nissan, they charge 50% less than Infiniti from my experience and you'll get the same service/quality parts. NYCKID, did you check the fuses? You might be able to handle this one yourself....

+1 if you prefer to get your work done at a dealer go to Nissan if possible to save some money. But they will still charge you a diagnostics fee, which typically is waived if you get the work done.

Yes I have already checked all my fuses... coolant level, fans. All work fine. Not sure what else is causing my engine temp to rise at idle.

Ok so will Nissan service my car since its an Infinity? I know basically we're the same cars, but I was just wondering will they do any type of servicing since it doesn't say Nissan.

All dealerships will charge a diagnostic fee of usually one hour. This is because their techs get one hour of pay for a diag so that is what the customer is charged. This is done to avoid having people bring in their cars to be diagnosed, using the dealer's facilities, equipment, and tech's time which the dealership has to pay for, and then going somewhere else for the repair. Any business would do the same thing, not just a car dealer. No business will do something for free that would cost them more than just a few dollars. Most dealers will credit back the diag fee if you have the repair done there, not all though so make sure you ask first. I agree though that $125 is ridiculous. Around here the Infiniti hourly rate is $120 and Nissan is $105. I had my belts changed at the Nissan dealer because their hourly rate is cheaper and they let me bring in my own belts which the Infiniti dealer wouldn't allow. I got out the door for $105 instead of the $175 it would have cost at Infiniti. The Nissan dealer also said they will do almost any repair on an Infiniti as long as it's not a warranty repair, their dealer agreements don't allow it.

When you started this thread your concern was the fans now you saying the temp rises when cars at idle....which is it? The fans are easy to check, when the temp gets above normal the fans should kick in....have you checked to see if they do? There should be a temp sensor that turns on the fans after your radiator fluid reaches a given temperature....that's a possibility. WTF have Nissan check it out....I can't tell from here. haha

Have you done a coolant flush?

Gary at first the problem was with one of my fans not working. I had to manually spin it with my hand to get it to run. They seem to both run now. I did a test yesterday on my car by turning on the A/C to see if both fans would come on and they do. But after about 40 minutes or so with the A/C on, both fans spinning (they seem to be spinnning stopping, spinning stopping even with the A/C on at all times). The temp guage in my car is up at about 80%. However inside the car is cool, so A/C is blowing cool air and fine.

Also when the A/C is off... when the temp in my hood reaches a certain point, should both fans spin or only one?

I also should mention this isn't my daily driver. It stays garaged most of the time and I only drive it a few times a year.
