Passport 9500IX hardwired with Homelink mirror

Did anyone here hardwire any radar and laser detectors to the power wires on the Homelink mirror? I was wondering is I could open the mirror and tap into the power source. Would there be any problems with them running simultaneously off the same power source?

Interesting idea... Just got my car and have a radar that needs hard wiring as well.

yes you can... use the search funtion and you can see what other people have done... depending on your detector some people sell a pre modded cable to hook up into the homelink mirror

I tapped into the wires above the passenger side visor/card holder. I do beleive they are the wires for the dome lights. Works perfect and the wires are tucked nicely in the headliner.

You can certainly do it without worrying since the radar draws minimal amperage, but since it takes all of 5 minutes to run the wires down to the fusebox why wouldn't you just do that?

I bought an Invisicord that cost $12 that comes with a plug to the Passport, and 2 wires that directly plug into the power plug for the mirror. Took about 30 seconds to install and it works great. I also have the Mike's Mount the mounts the detector to the mirror stem, so nothing's stuck to the windsheild. 2 of my favorite mods. Very clean look.

That looks the same exact way I wanted it.

i just ran mine into the fuse box by the drivers kickplate.

My V1 is up to the left of my mirror and it is impossible to see from the outside unless you look up at it.

I did the install just now in the driveway. A few pointers for anyone else who is going to do this. First if you don't plug the cord in the right places the detector wont start or it will say it has low power and power off. If you unplug the wire from the mirror and start the car the car wont start and it wont start until the wire from the mirror gets plugged back in. And it will also throw a Service Engine Soon light - I need to erase it at the shop tomorrow when I also change my front brakes.

Pics. I thought I wouldn't be able to get a GPS signal with the detector under the mirror but it works fine.

That looks awesome.
Too bad there is no remote mute button for the radar.

It would be interesting to wire it to the steering wheel so you can mute it with the audio controls.

Updated done.
