Has anybody read this article? Kinda trashes the new G convertible.

Have you driven the new 3 series? Go cart and a half. That thing is a piece of ****.

Yet to drive the brand new mustang, but from driving the last one. zzzzzzzzz

Opinions are opinions, not everyone is going to love the G. I am yet to drive a V36 so I can't really say anything about them, but I would take my V35 over any of those hands down... And I'll keep my roof.

Maybe they should introduce the Lexus ISC to that group. Also why isn't the 370Z roadster in there? The Mustang is Ford's ONLY sports car.

 

This comparison has got some major flaws, the writer is obviously biased towards the Mustang, and some of their conclusions are incomprehensible. First, they didn't compare similar vehicles. They used the top-of-the-line Mustang GT Premium with a manual against Base models with automatics for the other two. Why not a G37 Sport with a 6MT? The Mustang tops the G37 in Handling even though its got a solid rear axle, and they describe it as "somewhat disconnected" and it "moves around a bit". Edmunds described the G37 as a "world class athlete". And despite being "somewhat disconnected", the Mustang just misses on the Connectedness award. Of course it wins the Acceleration award, it's got a frickin' V8, but the 328i just loses out to the G37 when the G37 has 100 more horsepower, and probably a ½ to 1 second advantage in 0-60 times? Oh, I forgot, the 328i's engine is "a honey". The 328's I've driven are anemic and are far outclassed even by our G35's. And the G37 "leaves the engine sitting at 4000 RPM for no apparent reason"? Wow, sounds like they've either got a defective engine, or just made this part up. Too many other inconsistencies to list.

They seem to give the Mustang high marks across the board despite listing what many would think of as major flaws, yet knock the G37 for not only minor things, but in ways that I haven't seen in any other review. It felt like they had their minds made up before they started.

 

I think that the article is dead on.
First off, let me preface this by saying I hate Mustangs.
That being said, the new one is a new experience. Automotive journalists at nearly every publication would agree that the 2010 Mustang is more refined, more stable, and most importantly less boat-like than any of it's predecessors of the past two decades. Ford has made a really good car for once.
Second, the G37 convertible is not that exciting of a car. It's been called non-communicative before. Read just about any magazine's review, and they'll tell you that Infiniti left some things on the table with this car.
Third, the G37 makes 330hp doesn't it? The mustang makes 315. The "it's got a frickin V8" excuse doesn't really matter.
And, if you've ever driven an automatic G35 you should know full and well how it will just search for a gear sometimes.

 

Yea it did seam a little biased.

I notied where they mentioned the exhaust being heard from out back.
That's the part I like.

He noted that the ride is slightly more bumpy than the Mustang
That's because the suspension is much tighter than the Mustang and handles ten time better.



Let me say, I LOVE MUSTANGS, but I would take a G over my Mustangs, as I did, any day.

I have had 4 Mustangs that I absoulutly loved the Fox bodies Stangs because of their handling and nimble steering, but I love the G so much more.

The SN95 bodies I had were aweful, they always felt like you were gonna roll over when taking a curve and once you lower them, even slightly, they ride like a GO Cart. The G is such a better designed car... and the luxury is far superior to the Mustang.

 

Yes let's compare luxury cars to an american pile of poo.

It does when the Stang has 335 TQ compared to the G37's 270. That's a huge difference when accelerating from a stop.

I assume you mean G37. The G35's 5AT is awesome (I own one), but I have heard about some "problems" with the G37's 7AT and not always finding the right gear. That's part of why I mentioned they weren't comparing similar vehicles. If they're going to drive a Mustang GT Premium with a manual, they should have compared it to a G37 6MT Sport. And to keep it even fairer, they should have driven a BMW 335i instead of the woefully out-classed 328i. Stang 315 HP, 335 TQ. BMW 230 HP, 200 TQ. Not what I would call similar.

I like the new Mustangs alot. It's one of the sharpest American cars to come along in years/decades, so I'm not knocking the car itself, just this lopsided comparison.

 

The 328i is slower than a first gen G. Just gonna throw that out there.

 

Alot slower. I've driven a couple of 328i's and they were really sluggish. I don't know why they de-tuned it down so much. My sister's 330xi has basically the same engine, but it's got a lot more giddyup than the 328i. I guess they wanted a clearer distinction in the 3 Series. 335i for those who want to drive, 328i for those who want to appear to be driving.
