Weird rattling sound...

I have recently noticed that, when accelerating from a stop, a rattling noise occurs. This only happens for a split second in very low RPM's. Today, however, I heard it for the first time at speed. I was going about 40 mph and every time I gave it gas I heard the rattling. I have no idea where this rattle is coming from. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Rear of the car? Metal on metal rattle? If so - research rear axle click... Very common problem in our vehicles.

Probably just gear rattle or flywheel chatter, happens to all of us!

It's an AT so I doubt the gears are rattling?

Have you done any work on the exhaust lately?

I have the same exact issue. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't hear it. I wasn't available to go for a ride along to show the tech what I meant.

If you do end up getting it repaired, or figure out what it is, could you please post it. I will do the same, whichever comes first.

i had same problem with my 06 AT coupe just a few weeks ago. I did some massive searching on here and found this itb:

APPLIED DATE: Built before May 25, 2007
Classification:AT07-003
Reference: ITB07-030
Date: August 16, 2007

SHUDDER AT 40 MPH

APPLIED VEHICLES: 2006 G35 Sedan (V35) 2WD only

2006 – 2007 G35 Coupe (CV35)

APPLIED VINs: 2006 G35 Sedan and Coupe, all VINs

2007 G35 Coupe built before JNKCV54E(*)7M 910237

IF YOU CONFIRM

The vehicle has a shudder when the transmission is at operating temperature and the torque converter is:

• Engaging lock-up in 5th gear (light acceleration at 40 mph)

• Releasing the lock-up in 5th gear (coasting at about 40 mph)

NOTE: CONSULT-II (2006 models) or CONSULT-III (2007 models) can be used to confirm
transmission gear position and lock-up condition.

ACTION

Replace the transmission valve body (control valve assembly).

• For replacement information, refer to the Service Manual > Transaxle and Transmission (TM) > 5AT >
On Vehicle Repair > Control Valve Assembly.

• Use the new control valve assembly listed in the Parts Information table.

I called infiniti and scheduled an appointment for warranty work and let them know the main reason i was coming in for was for this itb. Instantly the guy new what i was talking about and said "yea sure no problem will fix that out for you." So im sure infiniti knows about this problem. But i would bring the itb just in case to show them if they deny. I've heard sometimes they deny and you have to replicate the problem, but its impossible because it happens randomly. Anyways, took about 3-4 hrs to fix? Now my baby runs smoothly. =] hopefully this will help.

Yeah, except it only happens at slow speeds. Nothing near where the car would be in 5th gear. We're talking like from a stop.

Similar problem this week

As I hit the accelerator on a freeway on ramp I heard this rattle in front of me on the other side of the firewall in the engine compartment. It only made the noise at high RPM 6k +. Pretty loud though. My initial concern was some sort of oil starvation. I noticed my oil was a little low a couple of weeks after I went in for servicing. I started changing my own oil after and never had the problem again. Anyway I pulled over and checked the oil, perfect. I didnt see anything else so I drove it some more. Everytime I brought it up past 6k it would make the noise. I took it to the dealer. My rep said there is a service bulletin out about silicon/plastic peices in th eheater core rattling around when the car is at high RPM's. It has to be back flushed. They gave me a loaner for the day. I came back later and no more noise. Its been a few days and the sound is gone. My car is stock except for Tanabe springs. 2008 G35s.
