I say get an 06 if you want a G, hell if you can afford it hop into a 37 and you'll fall in love. My uncle has one and it is just so much better IMO, more refined and more linear power.
Other cars I would consider in that price range would the new 09 WRX(they bumped up the power from the 08 a retuned suspension and wider tires, I think they added a little more STi nidbits here and there but i'm not sure.)
If you like the GTI do NOT get a MKV(2006-2009) they're outdated and outplayed. I just test drove a fully loaded MKVI(new 2010 model just hit the sales floor last week) yesterday and even though it has the same 2.0T TSI motor the refinement in-cabin and the mere looks blew the mkv away and made it look bubbly and girly. FYI the sticker was 27k with 18" wheels, sunroof, audio system and standard touch screen radio. Overall the car was luxurious, roomy, refined and seemed well made and definitely has more aftermarket potential than a G does because of the turbo and they are so restricted from the factory.
Downsides- FWD and not too much power out of the box
Hope that helps

Alright, don't get me wrong here because I've actually always been a VW fan as well as a previous GTI owner. They're great cars, but the man has clearly stated he wants a G.
G's are great cars and you'll love a coupe or a sedan. FYI - if you don't think you like g35 sedans I advise going to check out the latest thread of the Ultimate G35 sedan thread
If you want a coupe you can find 06-07 with all the options you want in your price range, easy.

Another lame test drive
Just did a test drive. What a waste! Around the block and then traffic on highway. Now I really know what I want!! lol. It looks hot and was comfortable. Dealer wants $38,200 for G-37 MT with NAV. What do you think? Besides the fact that it's outside my budget.

Buy used. There are used 08's going for 30k in my area, and all my prices are inflated(I live in CT). I believe they're still running a promotion to lease a new one for 350/month, again just a thought. Funny because at my dealer when I test drove one, well my dad did, the dealer told him to run through the gears and feel the difference. He insisted to go on the highway. Sounds like you had a bad salesman.

You could also buy a higher mileage 2006, something with over 80K on it, for a lot less money and use the extra to get a built motor put in. Not sure how this will work with your loan, but it may be that the build shops you mentioned can work with you on it. You agree to buy a particular built car, they go find one and build it up, and you drive it home. You'll have to check on this (the shop may need a dealer license), but it's certainly a possibility.

How much would it cost for me to get 330HP out of a G35? Also, I loose all warranty then right? And what about reliability? Would the car not last as long?

It sounds like you want a fairly inexpensive car, but also a fairly fancy one, those two goals are somewhat exclusive. Navigation and rear camera add a fair bit of cost. Rearward visibility isn't too bad in G35's, even coupes, so the camera isn't really a must, and a portable Garmin is a better GPS than the factory one, IMO. You're not going to get great fuel economy out of a G, so you can drop that from your wish list .

When you say faster...you mean top speed right? I think that is all you will get from all that extra HP. Unless torque is also greatly increased then I probably need to stop drooling over 330HP G. I'm sure the g35 top speed is plenty for me. What is the top speed G37/G35?

Who needs a G37 anyway?
Thank you!! That is all I needed to hear. I don't need any more HP than what the G35 has. If we are talking torque, then you got me. This will save me a ton of money!
Fact of the matter is my neighbor's 2004 looks pretty hot to me so the only new thing I'd possibly make a fuss about would be significant gains in acceleration (not speed) and the convertible (THAT is HOT!). The convertible is WAY too expensive and if all Infiniti did was give more HP, then it's all about finding a car young enough that I can take it to 120,000 miles comfortably. That means 2006/2007 G35 to me.
